A kitten, barely 4 weeks old and not yet weaned, was stolen from his mother’s side Friday from the Whis-Purr Rescue in Redwood City.

Lucy Brock, one of the directors of the rescue, said the kitten, Olaf, was in a cage with his mother and siblings when an unknown person snatched him.

Olaf was born on April 16 and was rescued with his mother, Olivia, and three siblings, Ollie, Oscar and Olea, the following day, and Whis-Purr has been caring for them ever since.

Kittens typically can be weaned at age 4 weeks, but Olaf and his siblings were developing a little slower. Olaf is dependent on his mother for his care, Brock says.

How someone made off with the tiny kitten is a mystery.

“We are physically present 12 hours a day, from early morning,” Brock says. “I am baffled as to how this past Friday, the perpetrator slipped away with Olaf unknown to us.”

Whis-Purr rescue is a new 501c3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping cats. It operates from the Peninsula Feed Store, 346 El Camino Real.

The rescue is offering a $2,000 reward for Olaf’s safe return and is promising “no questions asked.” Others have been donating to the fund, and Brock said the reward might be even larger. They really want Olaf back.

Whis-Purr Rescue recently was selected as the grand prize winner of the 3rd Annual Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest, sponsored by Greater Good Charities and Animal Planet’s Jackson Galaxy.
