SANJOSE>> More than 1,000 affordable homes could sprout at a site near a future BART station in a transit-oriented development east of downtown San Jose.

An increasingly active developer, Roygbiv Real Estate Development, has begun to float plans at San Jose City Hall for the first major component of the project.

The first phase, called Residencias Arianna, would consist of two large residential towers. One would be 12 stories high and the other 10 stories.

Residencias Arrianna is slated to contain 430 homes, consisting of 241 units in one building and 189 units in the other building, according

to plans filed by Roygbiv Real Estate with the city.

The 430 units in the first phase of the development would rise at 1298 Tripp Ave. between North 26th Street and Wooster Avenue near the interchange of U.S. Highway 101 and McKee Avenue.

The site also is less than a halfmile away from a future 28th Street/ Little Portugal BART station.

“This is a transit-oriented development,” said Loida Kirkley, chief executive officer with Roygbiv Real Estate. “This will include affordable

housing for very-low-income, low-income, and moderateincome people.”

When all three phases of the project are built, the overall development will consist of 1,200 units, according to project designer

Kurt Anderson, principal executive with Anderson Architects.

Roygbiv Real Estate has been actively making plans for at least four other tower projects that would add several hundred more homes to downtown San Jose if they are built.

Two housing highrises have been proposed by Roygbiv near the existing Diridon

train station, and two others would be built near a future downtown San Jose BART station a short distance from City Hall.

For the project near the Little Portugal BART station site, the two buildings in the first phase will both include notable amenities, according to the development proposal.

Common open areas will

be available on the first floor of each building. Both buildings will feature roof decks with gathering areas. Fitness centers are planned in each building.

Each of the two buildings will contain a combination of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, the city documents show.

The 1298 Tripp Ave. residential development would

be about a two-minute drive or an eight-minute walk away from the 28th Street/Little Portugal BART station, according to Google Maps

“Residents in Arianna will be able to take BART all over the Bay Area to get to work,” Kirkley said.
