14-year-old boy suspected of fatally stabbing mother and injuring his father
FREMONT >> A 14-year-old boy was arrested early Friday on suspicion of fatally stabbing his mother and seriously injuring his father, police said.
Officers were sent to a home on the 3300 block of Sylvester Drive, in Fremont’s Northgate neighborhood, just after 12:30 a.m. Friday to investigate a stabbing, authorities said in a written statement Friday afternoon.
Officers arrived and found an unconscious woman and a conscious man, both suffering from stab wounds, police said.
“Officers immediately attempted trauma care on the woman, but sadly she was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics,” police said. The man was taken to a trauma center, where he was in stable condition Friday afternoon.
Police said officers learned the suspect in the stabbing was the 14-yearold son of the two victims; authorities did not say in their statement what led them to this conclusion. Fremont police called in help from police in Newark and Union City to help set up a perimeter in the area and search for the boy.
After authorities searched for about 30 minutes for the boy, police received a call from a resident about a mile away from the scene of the
crime, reporting seeing a minor covered in blood.
Officers rushed to the area and arrested the boy, police said.
Police said detectives “continue to seek answers” in the active investigation,
and released no other details, including a possible motive for the crime.
The name of the suspect is being withheld by police because he is a minor. The name of the woman who was killed was being withheld by authorities to allow family members time to notify other relatives, police said.
Police said anyone with information about the incident should call the Fremont Police Department’s Investigative Unit at 510790-6900.
