‘Hamilton’ attendees will need to show vaccine proof or test results
BroadwaySF joins groups following safety precautions
Going to see “Hamilton” when it reopens at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco this month? Better bring along more than just your ticket.
Promoters BroadwaySF have announced that audience members will need to show proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test in order to attend “Hamilton.” Also, wearing masks will be mandatory in the theater.
“We take the health of our community seriously,” said BroadwaySF managing director Rainier Koeners. “When our theaters shut down more than 17 months ago, we knew that we needed to follow the experts, many of whom live in the Bay Area, to best understand how and when we could return to live performances with the safety of everyone as our biggest concern.”
The policy requires that all attendees, regardless of age, must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or of negative test results from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of performance time in order to enter the theater.
“‘Fully vaccinated’ means that your performance is at least 14 days after your final vaccine dose,” according to a news release. “Patrons under the age of 12 must show negative PCR test results within the 72 hour window. Children under 5 are not admitted. All patrons, regardless of age and vaccination status, are required to wear masks inside the theatre at all times (except when consuming food or beverages).”
In order to enter the theater, ticketholders must show their photo ID as well as proof of vaccination — which can be the actual physical vaccination card, a picture of your card or a digital vaccination record — or the negative COVID-19 test results.
“BroadwaySF’s policy is subject to change for future productions,” according to a news release. “Any changes will be based on the expertise of the medical community and City, and in consultation with each individual production.”
“Hamilton” opens Aug. 10 at the Orpheum Theatre, where it was playing when the touring production was shut down by the pandemic’s shelter-in-place requirements. It will play in San Francisco through Sept. 5 before heading to San Jose for a run.
BroadwaySF, which owns and manages the Orpheum and Golden Gate theaters in San Francisco, and which was acquired by Ambassador Theatre Group earlier in the year, joins a growing number of arts organizations that are requiring patrons to show some of type of vaccination proof and/or negative COVID test as well as wear masks inside the venues.
