Another Yankees pitcher tests positive for COVID-19

Bryce Harper’s solo home run in the eighth inning against his former team was the difference in the Philadelph­ia Phillies’ 5-4 victory against the Nationals on Tuesday night at Washington.

Harper hit a 430-foot home run to left-center off Javy Guerra, his 17th, for a 5-2 lead.

The Phils held on for their third consecutiv­e victory to push their record back above .500 at 54-53.

ANOTHER YANKEES PITCHER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID >> New York Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, a day after fellow starter Gerrit Cole was sidelined by the virus.

General manager Brian Cashman revealed Montgomery’s positive test during a radio interview before Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

The All-Star ace Cole was expected to start Tuesday, but manager Aaron Boone revealed the right-hander’s positive test after Monday’s 7-1 loss to the Orioles.

Montgomery and Cole, who share the team lead with 21 starts apiece, will be out at least 10 days unless they draw two negative test results. Montgomery’s most recent start was Sunday, when he had a no-decision in a 3-1 win over Miami.

The positive tests came after the Yankees returned from a weeklong trip to Florida, which is among the states experienci­ng an increase in COVID-19 cases.

At least 85% of New York’s players are vaccinated.

RED SOX CLOSER BARNES ON COVID-19 INJURED LIST >> The Boston Red Sox placed closer Matt Barnes on the COVID-19 injured list on Tuesday. Barnes is 5-2 with 23 saves and a 2.30 ERA, but hadn’t pitched since a save against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 28. The right-hander was put into quarantine after showing symptoms at the team’s hotel in Detroit, and is awaiting test results.
