Oubre Jr. reportedly agrees to 2-year deal to join Charlotte

- News service report

Free agent Kelly Oubre Jr. won’t be returning to the Warriors after agreeing to a two-year, $26 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets.

Because of the deal’s length, which was reported by The Athletic, there is no possibility of a sign-andtrade for the Warriors.

Oubre, 25, averaged 15.4 points, six rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.9% overall in 55 games during his lone season in Golden State. He agrees to sign with Charlotte after speculation about whether he’d return to the Warriors. In recent weeks, Oubre had been critical of the organization, saying he was “put in a box” last season.

Though it seemed unlikely Oubre would return, some wondered if the Warriors would be able to facilitate a sign-and-trade in order to bring back an asset or trade exception. However, the length of his deal rules out that possibility, since players must agree to deals of at least three years in length in order to be sign-and-traded. REPORT: LEONARD TO RESIGN WITH CLIPPERS >> Free agent forward Kawhi Leonard will re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, though financial terms and length of the contract were still being worked out, Yahoo Sports reported.

Leonard underwent surgery on a partially torn ACL in his right knee on July 13, and could miss a substantial portion of the 2021-22 season.

Reggie Jackson also rejoined the Clippers on a two-year, $22 million deal.
