All that jazz in San Jose
You won’t find warbling sweethearts or Shakespearean soliloquies at the Tabard Theatre in San Jose this weekend, but you will find some awfully talented jazz musicians.
Tabard Theatre Company’s Summer Big Band Celebration runs today through Sunday at the theater (formerly known as the Theatre on San Pedro Square), and all performances will be livestreamed as well.
Among the performers are the Dirty Downtown Jazz Syndicate featuring vocalist Lauren Halliwell (tonight), big band Nineteen featuring singer Juanita Harris performing the Chick Webb/Ella Fitzgerald songbook (Friday); the Millennium Sounds Orchestra with singers Rich Santoro and Joyce McCullough, covering everything from big band to Latin to Great American Songbook (Saturday); the 17-piece vintage jazz outfit Top Shelf Big Band (Saturday); the sassy 7th Street Big Band, playing everything from jazz to hip-hop (Saturday); the 21-piece Touch of Brass, which pays tribute to Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich (Sunday); and the Serenaders, specializing in classic jazz and pop standards.
Also, a swing dance lesson will be available Saturday afternoon.
Masks will be required for all those attending in person.
