Dodgers defeat Mets for their ninth consecutive victory

-

Trea Turner, Albert Pujols and Chris Taylor each homered off Rich Hill, and Max Scherzer won for the third time in four starts since being acquired as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the slumping New York Mets 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

The surging Dodgers have won nine consecutive games, matching a season-best win streak. Six of those wins have come against the Mets, who have dropped eight of nine overall.

Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 27th save.

The Dodgers had a three-run lead through six innings before Alonso hit a two-run home run, his 28th of the season, off reliever Blake Treinen in the seventh.

New York squandered a ripe opportunity in the fifth when it loaded the bases against Scherzer, all with two outs. Scherzer struck out J.D. Davis to end the threat, but it was a taxing 34-pitch inning for Scherzer, whose day was done after that big strikeout.

Nimmo homered for the Mets, a solo shot to right field off Scherzer in the fifth inning. Scherzer allowed just that one run and five hits. He struck out eight and walked one. BREWERS9,NATIONALS6>> Christian Yelich had a grand slam in the eighth inning, a solo shot in the first and finished with six RBIs as Milwaukee held on for a victory over Washington. YANKEES 7, TWINS 1 >> Gerrit Cole pitched six scoreless innings, leading New York past visiting Minnesota for its season-high ninth straight win.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run double during New York’s five-run fifth, helping the Yankees move to 21-5 since dropping three of four at Boston in late July. Cole (12-6) allowed five hits, struck out six and walked one.

The Twins’ Kenta Maeda (6-5) allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings before exiting with right forearm tightness.

ASTROS 15, MARINERS 3 >> Rookie Taylor Jones had a career-high four RBIs and finished a single shy of the cycle, and Yordan Alvarez hit a three-run homer as Houston routed Seattle for the second straight game.

The victory comes after the AL West-leading Astros won the series opener 12-3 on Friday night.

Jose Altuve added a season-best four hits to help the Astros to their third straight win after losing four in a row. BRAVES5,ORIOLES4>> Austin Riley put Atlanta ahead for good with a homer in the fifth inning, and the Braves stretched their winning streak to eight games while handing Baltimore its 17th consecutive defeat.

Joc Pederson also homered for the Braves, who have won 15 of 17 to take over first place in the NL East.

BLUE JAYS 3, TIGERS 0 >> Hyun Jin Ryu cruised through seven innings for Toronto, and Randal Grichuk and Marcus Semien homered in a win over Detroit.

Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera went 0 for 3 with a walk to remain at 499 career homers.
