Senzatela, Cron pace Rockies in win over Dodgers

-

Antonio Senzatela pitched seven sparkling innings, C.J. Cron slugged a three-run homer, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 on Sunday at Dodger Stadium, taking two of three from the defending World Series champions.

Senzatela (3-9) cooled off the Dodgers, winners of 17 of 20, by allowing two hits in just their fourth shutout loss of the season.

He struck out five and walked one on 90 pitches. The Dodgers had just three hits.

Senzatela had a perfect game through four innings. Corey Seager finally broke through with a leadoff single in the fifth. He moved to third on a single by Cody Bellinger, but Austin Barnes grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the threat.

Senzatela walked Seager leading off the seventh and hit Chris Taylor, but the right-hander retired the next three batters.

The Rockies had runners on base in every inning except the fifth and eighth after managing just three hits in a 5-2 loss on Saturday. They won the opener 4-2.

Colorado improved to 16-49 on the road. Brendan Rodgers singled and Charlie Blackmon doubled to set up Cron, who blasted his 24th homer of the season and 10th this month for a 3-0 lead against Mitch White in the first. MARLINS 2, REDS 1 >> Jesús Luzardo allowed one hit and no runs in six-plus innings, helping Miami take the rubber game of the series.

Luzardo (5-7) had by far his best outing since being acquired from the A’s for Starling Marte at the trade deadline. The left-hander tied a career high with eight strikeouts.

Jesús Sánchez hit a two-run homer for Miami in the first inning. Dylan Floro gave up a run in the ninth but struck out Kyle Farmer with a runner on second for his seventh save, completing a two-hitter.

Cincinnati’s lead over San Diego for the second NL wild card fell to 11/2 games. RANGERS 13, ASTROS 2 >> Adolis García hit the first grand slam by a Texas batter in almost two years, and the rebuilding Rangers avoided being swept by Houston.

García’s 29th homer was part of an eight-run outburst in the fifth, the highest-scoring inning for the last-place Rangers this season. DJ Peters led it off with a towering 450-foot drive to straightaway center field that made it 6-2 and chased Zack Greinke (11-5).

BLUE JAYS 2, TIGERS 1 >> José Berríos struck out 11 and gave up an unearned run in seven innings as Toronto beat Detroit.

Bo Bichette and Kevin Smith homered for the Blue Jays.

RAYS 12, ORIOLES 8 >> Joey Wendle hit a pair of homers, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs to help Tamoa Bay complete a threegame series sweep.

AL East-leading Tampa Bay finished 18-1 against the Orioles this year.

BREWERS 6, TWINS 2 >> Rowdy Tellez hit a threerun homer, Aaron Ashby recorded his first major league win, and NL Central-leading Milwaukee snapped a three-game losing streak.

Luis Urías also homered and Kolten Wong hit a two-run double for the Brewers, who raised their MLB-best road record to 43-23.
