Even San Francisco Fleet Week wasn’t immune to the impact of COVID-19 in 2020, as concerns over the pandemic led to the cancelation of last year’s beloved show that celebrates America’s armed services.

Yet, the high-flying fun is back in 2021 and ready to delight flight fans around the Bay Area.

Here’s a look at 2021 Fleet Week, including the details on the popular air show and other attractions.

WHEN >> Fleet Week runs through Monday, featuring ship tours, air shows, music and other events honoring the men and women of the U.S. armed forces. WEBSITE >> fleetweeksf.org AIR SHOW >> The famed Air Show draws flight fans from around the globe to witness the adventures of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other high-flyers. Taking place Friday through Sunday, the show is reportedly the only one in the U.S. with a commercial airliner — a United Airlines 777 — participating in a fully choregraphed program. The action is centered in the area between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Of course, you can watch the action for free all around the city, but grandstand and other seated viewing spots offer the best look at the amazing stunts. Tickets are $85-$325.

SHIP TOURS >> Thousands of people will get the chance to board a variety of vessels (including destroyers and cruisers) that will be docked at the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Visitors will get a glimpse of the lives of sailors in the Navy and Coast Guard. These free tours run throughout Fleet Week and operate on a first-come, first-served basis (so get there early and get in line). PARADE OF SHIPS >> Witness the fleet as it crosses under the Golden Gate Bridge and enters San Francisco Bay at 11 a.m. Friday. The procession of ships — reportedly the largest parade of ships held on the West Coast — can be seen from the Golden Gate to Bay bridges. The reviewing stand is located at the Marina Green. The San Francisco Fire Department will provide the lead escort, with its fireboat shooting streams of water toward the sky to celebrate the arrival of the fleet. AND SO MUCH MORE >> Go to the website, fleetweeksf.org, for more information about the Neighborhood Concert Series and other events taking place during Fleet Week.
