Crashes within hours of each other kill two occupants
A motorcyclist was hit by the driver of a large truck, and a driver crashed into a tree
SAN JOSE Two traffic deaths occurred within hours of each other overnight in the city after a passenger died in a solo crash and a motorcyclist died after being hit by the driver of a large truck, according to authorities.
The first incident occurred when a driver crashed into a tree around 11:52 p.m. Tuesday at Saratoga Avenue and Graves Avenue, San Jose police said.
A person driving a 1996 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound when the collision happened, according to authorities.
The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Santa Clara County coroner’s office after notification of the next of kin.
A motorcyclist also was hit by a truck driver Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Police said they responded around 5:36 a.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at North 10th Street and Commercial Street, according to a news release.
A person on a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle was on northbound North 10th Street while the driver of a 2013 Peterbilt garbage truck was leaving a business yard and made a left turn onto southbound North 10th Street, police said. The motorcyclist collided with the truck on the driver’s side and was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity also esd withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Police said the pair of fatal collisions marked the city’s 48th and 49th traffic death cases, and the two people killed were the 49th and 50th victims of the year.
