QI am curious what you think about Tesla offering video games on their in-car monitors, part of a recent upgrade. Apparently this was discovered just this week by a Tesla owner!

Dumb, dumb, dumb. And dangerous. Q I could not believe my eyes when I read about Tesla installing video game capabilities in its cars when they are being driven. How could they be so irresponsible? What are they thinking, or maybe they are not. I don’t know, maybe I am just out of touch.

— Mike Bernal,

Morgan Hill A You are not of touch. Tesla ought to follow the lead of Mercedes, which is recalling some vehicles to remove this distraction. But Tesla, which included the games through a software update this summer, has not taken any public steps to fix the problem. The National Highway Traffic

Safety Administration said it is aware of the situation.

Q

I have a 2018 Tesla with the red clean air vehicle carpool lane stickers. My stickers expire Jan. 1. I thought it would be possible to renew the stickers for at least one additional three-year period, but the DMV website seems to indicate that is not the case. Can you please confirm whether or not renewal is an option? — Greg Breshears, Cupertino A Red clean air vehicle (CAV) carpool lane stickers are typically only valid for a four-year period and are not renewable. The DMV administers the CAV decal program in partnership with the California Air Resources Board. For more information go to the Clean Air Vehicle Decals webpage.

Q

When I installed the front license plate on my Tesla, it disabled the self-driving and safety capabilities because it blocked one of the cameras. It isn’t about vanity, it makes the car less safe. This is poor design by Tesla, but you can’t blame owners for not wanting to break their cars.

Thanks for letting us know. This does sound like a design issue. Q A few days ago I was walking my dogs in Willow Glen. I noticed a Tesla with no front license plate. It had no bracket to hold a plate. I walked for three hours and observed over 100 cars of all models and makes without front plates. I spoke to a police officer about this and he said, “Yes, it is a thing, but we don`t have the time or resources to deal with it.”

I understand that. I also understand that the California state law requiring a front plate is a joke. — Steve Trinwi, San Jose

Many readers agree with you. Still, the law says two plates.
