Two men were arrested for drug and weapons-related charges, and a third man was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after police made a traffic stop in Menlo Park Friday.

Menlo Park police officers stopped David Stedman, 71, of East Palo Alto, and Donald Green, 67, of Menlo Park at 7:41 a.m. Friday for a vehicle code violation.

Stedman, the driver, was found in possession of an instrument to ingest a controlled substance and a used hypodermic syringe, police said. The passenger, Green, was found in possession of a large amount of heroin and cocaine base and other related items, police said.

Police obtained a warrant to search Green's home, where they found firearms, heroin and items used in the manufacturing of cocaine base.

Richard Green, 33, of Menlo Park was found smoking marijuana while with a child in a small, enclosed structure on the property and was detained on suspicion of child abuse, police said.

He was cited and released pending a case review by the San Mateo County District Attorney's office and the child was placed in the care of family members.

Police found two other structures on the property. One was being used as a grow house for marijuana and the other was being used to weigh and package dried marijuana, police said.

Menlo Park police seized approximately 20 pounds of loose and packaged dried marijuana, which authorities later determined belonged to Richard Green, according to police.

Police also found a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic firearm along with a loaded extra magazine, a rifle, and a compound bow at the residence.

Donald Green was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, illegal firearm possession and six related charges.

Stedman was cited and released on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.
