Wrist issue sends Twins’ Kirilloff to injured list

-

The Minnesota Twins placed left fielder Alex Kirilloff on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist on Wednesday.

Kirilloff was scratched from the lineup against the Dodgers, replaced by Nick Gordon. Outfielder Trevor Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to replace the 24-year-old Kirilloff on the roster. The 2016 first-round draft pick had his 2021 season cut short by the surgery in July.

Kirilloff is 1 for 17 this year with seven strikeouts, and he hasn’t been able to swing without pain. As a rookie last season, he hit .251 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in 215 at-bats. He tried to play through the wrist discomfort for awhile, before the surgery decision was made.

“It’s just frustrating, but I’m determined to try to get to the bottom of this. I don’t want to be short-sighted about it. Obviously this is just one long, continuous puzzle to try to figure out,” said

Kirilloff, who has been on the injured list five times in his career for a wrist injury, including twice in the minors.

WHITE SOX’S JIMENEZ HURTS ANKLE >> The Chicago White Sox, already beseiged by injuries, had another setback Wednesday night when left fielder Eloy Jiménez left the game against Seattle in the fifth inning because of left ankle soreness.

Jiménez homered in the second, and then fouled a ball off his ankle in the third.

X-rays were negative, and the team said Jiménez is day to day with a contusion.

MARINERS’ ROMO ON IL >> The Seattle Mariners put right-hander Sergio Romo on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, one day after the 39-year-old made his 800th major league appearance.

He has struck out three in two scoreless innings this year, giving up one hit and no walks.

For his career, Romo is 42-35 with 137 saves and a 3.09 ERA with seven different teams.
