3 MORE CENTRAL OREGON LODGING OPTIONS
Headed for Central Oregon? Hotels, lodges and B&Bs dot the landscape up here with options that range from Bend's quirky McMenamins Old St. Francis School to a waterside lodge on Suttle Lake. Here are three more options, including a recently renovated resort and two new hot spots.
THE FAIR TRADE SCP HOTEL
The historic Redmond Hotel, which dates back to the 1920s, got a new lease on life when it reopened in December 2019 as the boutique SCP Hotel. The sleek, minimalist property includes 49 guest rooms, Provisions Market and a fourth-floor bar and lounge — The Rooftop — which offers small bites, craft cocktails and beer, and sunset views. Other on-site eateries include Terra Kitchen and the Wayfarer Club, which serves small plates and cocktails.
This unusual, wellness-focused hotel chain — SCP stands for Soul Community Planet — is all about net-zero waste, vegetarian fare and “peaceful rooms” with yoga mats, essential oils, calming teas and no clocks, radios or TVs. And its “every stay does good” ethos, shared by all five properties in the San Juan Capistrano-based chain, helps fund adolescent mental health causes, One Tree Planted and Miracle for Kids, which provides 24 hours of electricity to families with a critically ill child.
DETAILS >> Rooms, which include king and queen rooms and family suites, start at $190 — but the company practices fair trade pricing. If your experience was not great, you can adjust the rate at checkout. 521 SW Sixth St., Redmond; www.scphotel.com/redmond
SUNRIVER GETS SPLASHIER
Sunriver, the high-desert resort nestled against the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, has long been a popular base camp for golfers, outdoors enthusiasts and vacationing families. But a $40 million renovation last year has given the resort some enticing new attractions, from guest room updates (which will be completed by early 2023) to a new 18-hole putting course and an expanded, year-round aquatic center at The Cove. The splashy fun includes a new indoor pool, a lazy river-style experience, a poolside bar and a two-story waterslide that wraps around the building — and roll-up doors that bring the outside in.

BEND'S CAMP GLAMP
A 1950s-era RV park on the outskirts of town has become a glamping style, in-town experience dubbed The Camp. The geographic change is due to 70 years of urban growth, of course. The glamping comes courtesy of boutique overnight options including six refurbished vintage trailers, an Airstream and a tiny house. (There are RV sites, too, if you're driving your own.)
Spend the night in the pup-friendly Clifford, a refreshed 1961 Shasta Airflyte, complete with black-and-white checkered floors. Or go National Parktastic with the Park Ranger, a refurbished 1947 Westwood Coronado.
DETAILS >> Prices start at $107. 305 NE Burnside Ave., Bend; www.thecamp bend.com
