Bichette's slam lifts Blue Jays to victory
Bo Bichette broke an eighth-inning tie with his first career grand slam and the host Toronto Blue Jays beat the slumping Boston Red Sox 6-2 on Monday night.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Matt Chapman also homered for the Blue Jays, who lead the majors with 25 home runs.
José Berríos allowed two runs in seven-plus innings and Adam Cimber (4-0) got three outs for his major league-leading fourth win as Toronto won for the fifth time in six games. Boston has lost three straight and five of six. Bichette snapped a 2-all tie with a two-out drive to right off right-hander Tyler Danish.
The long balls by Gurriel and Chapman came off Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi, who allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. PHILLIES 8, ROCKIES 2 >> Bryce Harper homered and drove in two runs, Rhys Hoskins had three hits and Philadelphia defeated visiting Colorado.
Kyle Schwarber added two RBIs for the Phillies. Kyle Gibson (2-1) lasted 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Four of Philadelphia's runs were unearned as the Rockies committed three errors. DODGERS' BAUER SUES ACCUSER >> Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer sued the woman who accused him of sexual assault in federal court Monday, in a move that came less than three months after prosecutors decided not to file criminal charges against the athlete.
The San Diego woman, whom the pitcher had met through social media, had alleged that Bauer beat and sexually abused her last year. She later sought — but was denied — a restraining order against him. Los Angeles prosecutors said in February there was insufficient evidence to prove the woman's accusations beyond a reasonable doubt.
Bauer named the woman and one of her attorneys, Niranjan Fred Thiagarajah, as defendants in the suit.
“She wanted to destroy Mr. Bauer's reputation and baseball career, garner attention for herself, and extract millions of dollars from Mr. Bauer,” the lawsuit states.
Bauer was placed on administrative leave last July 2 under the joint domestic violence and sexual assault policy of MLB and the players' association. The leave has been repeatedly extended and currently expires Friday.
