Edey powers No. 1 Purdue to eighth consecutiv­e win

Zach Edey scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, helping No. 1 Purdue beat visiting Michigan State 77-61 on Sunday.

David Jenkins Jr. added a season-best 11 points as the Big Ten-leading Boilermake­rs (21-1, 10-1) won their eighth straight. Edey also had three blocks and three assists.

A.J. Hoggard had 20 points for the Spartans (148, 6-5), who haven't won at Mackey Arena since 2014. Edey, who had 32 points and 17 rebounds in a 6463 win at Michigan State on Jan. 16, stood in their way once again.

After scoring just four points and grabbing only one rebound in the first 12 minutes, the 7-foot-4 junior heated up quickly.

NO. 23 PROVIDENCE 70, VILLANOVA 65 >> Jared Bynum scored 17 of his 19 points after halftime and hit a key jumper and two free throws late to help the Friars beat the Wildcats in Philadelph­ia.

Providence (17-5, 9-2 Big East) trailed by seven midway through the second half before rallying.

Cam Whitmore had 21 points to lead Villanova (10-11, 4-6).

Women CAL 64, OREGON STATE 62 >>

Lutje Schipholt's layup with 45 seconds left and her blocked shot with 16 seconds remaining lifted Cal (11-10, 2-8 Pac-12) past Oregon State (11-10, 3-7).

Cal, which got a gamehigh 21 points from Jayden

Curry, held Oregon State to just nine fourth-quarter points while erasing an eight-point, fourth-quarter deficit.

In Saturday's 86-78 road loss to No. 18 Iowa State, senior guard Taylor Robertson of 14th-ranked Oklahoma became the Division I career leader in 3-pointers.

Robertson's first basket of the game, at 4:18 of the first quarter, moved her past Kelsey Mitchell, who had 497 3s when she finished at Ohio State in 2018. Robertson finished 6 of 8 behind the arc and scored a season-high 25 points.

Robertson reached 497 in 137 games, two fewer than Mitchell, who now plays for the WNBA's Indiana Fever.

Robertson now has 57 3-pointers this season and 502 in her career. PURDUE 73, NO. 2 OHIO STATE 65 >> Abbey Ellis made a season-high five 3 pointers and the Boilermake­rs earned their first top-five road victory in program history.

The Buckeyes (19-3, 8-3 Big Ten) lost their thirdconse­cutive contest after winning the first 19 games of the season.

Leading by as many as 17 points early in the third quarter, Purdue (15-6, 6-5) saw its lead dwindle as Ohio State rallied in the second half and eventually tied it before the Boilermake­rs pulled away.

Aliyah Boston had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Bree Hall scored a career-high 18 to lead the visiting Gamecocks over the Crimson Tide (16-6, 5-4 SEC).

Aubrey Griffin scored 19 points and the Huskies topped the Wildcats in Hartford, Conn.

Emily Bessoir scored 17 points and had six rebounds for UCLA (17-5, 6-4). WASHINGTON STATE 70, NO. 19 ARIZONA 59 >> Bella Murekatete scored 18 points, and Ula Motuga added 16, lifting the Cougars to a road win over the Wildcats.

Motuga and Murekatete hit two buckets each in a 1½-minute stretch late in the fourth quarter, giving Washington State (156, 5-5 Pac-12) a 66-57 lead with 1:07 to go.

Esmery Martinez led Arizona (16-5, 6-4) with 14 points.
