Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys and girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performanc­es from Jan. 23-28.

Polls close at 5p.m. Wednesday. Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting. Votes by email are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday. Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschool­s@ bayareanew­sgroup.com. We accept nomination­s until 11a.m. each Monday.

Here are the nominees:

GIRLS

Addie Bailey, Acalanes soccer:

The senior scored in all three of Acalanes' wins last week. Bailey scored a brace (two goals) against both Northgate and Miramonte and bagged one goal in a 2-0 win over Alhambra. Those goals helped the Dons improve to 9-1-5 on the season. Sasha Bernthal, Menlo School soccer: The senior set up her teammates with four assists in a 6-0 win over Notre Dame-San Jose on Tuesday. Bernthal then scored a goal on Saturday in a win against Stevenson. India Bowles, Archbishop Riordan soccer: Bowles, a senior, was one of six Crusaders to score in Riordan's 7-0 win over Jefferson. A few days later, Bowles scored again in Riordan's game against College Prep of Oakland. Kendall Campbell, Pinole Valley basketball: The junior wing scored a game-high 16 points in Pinole Valley's 88-24 win over De Anza. Pinole Valley is 16-8 this season with wins over Priory and Monterey Trail. Snowe De Leon, Mount Pleasant basketball: De Leon had 33 points, 12rebounds, nine steals and five assists in a win against James Lick. A few days later, she scored 33 points and had 16 rebounds against San Jose. She also scored 17points against Yerba Buena. Madison Donati, Terra Nova soccer: The junior striker scored

two goals and had an assist in a 3-0 win over South San Francisco. According to statistics reported to MaxPreps, it is the seventh time Donati has scored at least two goals in a match this season. Karena Eberts, Miramonte

basketball: Eberts, who is averaging 17.5 points per game, scored a career-high 33 points in a big win against Clayton Valley Charter on Friday. She hit 14of 20shots. Eberts followed that up with 12 points and 19 rebounds in a 45-35win against Campolindo. Anneka Lupinek, San Ramon Valley basketball: Lupinek had an incredible senior night against Foothill, scoring 38 points while adding 12steals, six rebounds and five assists. Lupinek had scored nine points earlier that week in a win over Dublin. Leilani Perez, Kennedy-Richmond soccer: The freshman did it all for Kennedy in a 2-2draw against Swett. She scored a goal and also assisted on the other. Perez also had five steals and attempted four corner kicks. Elaina Rosa, Silver Creek soccer: The sophomore goalkeeper saved four shots in a 3-0 win against Willow Glen. A few days later, Rosa saved three more shots in a 4-1win against Evergreen Valley. Rosa has four shutouts and 43 saves this season.

BOYS

Courtney Anderson Jr., Dublin basketball: The senior averaged 21.3 points to help the Gaels win three East Bay Athletic League games. Scored 28 points in a 7975 win over San Ramon Valley, 19 in a 56-48victory over Amador Valley and 17 in a 67-60 win over Granada as Dublin improved to 17-7, 6-1. Joseph Bangalan, Piedmont Hills basketball: The senior had himself a game against LincolnSan Jose, finishing with 32 points on 9-of-10shooting -- all from beyond the 3-point arc -as Piedmont Hills won 81-79 in league play. Also had 12 points in a 56-53 loss to Independen­ce. Alen Begovic, Santa Clara soccer: Scored his team's goal in a 1-1tie against Los Altos that kept Santa Clara on the heels of first-place Mountain View in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League's De Anza Division. The junior also scored a goal in his team's previous game, a 2-0 victory over Palo Alto. Begovic began this week with a teamleadin­g eight goals.

Jake Davis, Acalanes basketball: The 6-foot-9, 220-pound senior had 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Dons to a 56-43victory over College Park in Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division play. In the previous game, he had 20 points and nine rebounds in a 64-61loss to Campolindo. Rex Denker, Pioneer basketball: The senior led his team to two home wins that moved the Mustangs into second place in their league. He had 27 points and seven rebounds in a 50-43 victory over Lincoln-San Jose and 18 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 57-51 win over Branham. Marco Jara, Clayton Valley

Charter soccer: The senior scored twice to lead Clayton Valley past Ygnacio Valley 3-1in a Diablo Valley Athletic League Foothill Division match. The victory improved the Ugly Eagles' record to 14-0-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the league. Zaden Martin, Burlingame

basketball: The senior averaged 15.7 points over three games, which included victories over Woodside and Capuchino and a close loss to Carlmont. Scored 17 points in a 56-46 win over Woodside and 15 in a 59-42 win over Capuchino. Burlingame ended the week 15-3, 6-1. Alessandro Velazquez, Menlo

School soccer: Scored two goals and assisted on another in a 6-0 victory over Pinewood. Also had a goal in a 1-1 tie against Crystal Springs Uplands. The Knights ended the week with a record of 7-4-3 overall and 6-1-1in West Bay Athletic League play. Jayson Victoria, Granada

wrestling: Took first in the 138-pound weight division at the 58th Overfelt Classic, defeating Phu Le of Milpitas by fall at 3:04 in the final. The Granada junior is ranked 20th in the state by the California Wrestler. Hung Vo, Silver Creek wresting: The sophomore captured the 285-pound weight class at the Overfelt Classic, defeating Reno's Jorge Gonzales by fall at 3:38in the first-place match. Vo is ranked 16th in the state by the California Wrestler.
