WCAL boys title race will need final game to determine champ

It'll come down to the wire to decide the fate of the West Catholic Athletic League crown.

Archbishop Riordan (18-5 overall, 11-2 league), ranked fourth by the Bay Area News Group, cruised past Bellarmine on Friday night.

No. 6 Archbishop Mitty (19-4, 11-2) beat St. Ignatius on the road.

Both Top 10 teams are tied for first place with one game to play. A victory on Tuesday night guarantees no worse than a shared league crown.

Mitty will play host to Valley Christian, which has lost 11 of its last 13 league games. The Monarchs beat Valley Christian by 27 points last month.

Riordan will travel to play Sacred Heart Cathedral, the same team that unexpected­ly beat Mitty last week. Riordan beat SHC by 11 points on Jan. 24.

NO. 4 ARCHBISHOP RIORDAN 68, BELLARMINE 52 >> Jasir Rencher scored 17 points and Christian Wise had 12 points in Riordan's home win over Bellarmine in a WCAL game. Noah Schneider led Bellarmine with 16 points. Bellarmine slipped to 9-13, 4-9.

NO. 6 ARCHBISHOP MITTY 47, ST. IGNATIUS 40 >> Mitty escaped San Francisco with a crucial win over host St. Ignatius in WCAL play. Derek Sangster scored 17 points and Tyler Jones finished with 15 points for Mitty. Raymond Whitley scored 11 points for St. Ignatius. SI fell to 13-10, 7-6.

NO. 11 MOREAU CATHOLIC 78, IRVINGTON 57 >> Mission Valley Athletic League champion Moreau Catholic rolled past visiting Irvington to complete a perfect league season. Kellen Hampton had 28 points for Moreau, which extended its winning streak to 11 games and improved to 20-5, 14-0. Irvington fell to 12-14, 9-5.

NO. 12 OAKLAND 44, MCCLYMONDS 33 >> Money Williams scored 13 points in Oakland's win over host McClymonds in OAL play. Deontae Faison scored nine points for McClymonds. Oakland improved to 21-7, 8-2. McClymonds fell to 9-14, 4-6.

THE KING'S ACADEMY 60, NO. 14 PRIORY 54 >> Jon Taylor and Tylek Barnett each scored 21 points in The King's Academy's win on the road over Priory in a West Bay Athletic League game. Nes Emeneke scored 18 points and Rehan Parwani and Ryder Bush each added 13 points for Priory. TKA improved to 18-3, 5-3. Priory slipped to 20-3, 7-2.

NO. 16 SACRED HEART PREP 60, MENLO SCHOOL 49 >> Sacred Heart Prep built a 33-17 lead at halftime and cruised to a win at home over rival Menlo School in WBAL play. TJ O'Brien (18 points), Sam Norris (16 points) and Erick Osterloh (10 points) scored in double figures for SHP. Lucas Vogel led Menlo with 17 points. SHP improved to 17-5, 8-1. Menlo fell to 11-12, 5-4.

SERRA 61, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 56 >> Serra coach Chuck Rapp won his 400th game as the Padres beat host Valley Christian in WCAL play. Marcel Elicagaray (17 points), Ryan Pettis (16 points) and Seamus Gilmartin (12 points) scored in double figures. Serra improved to 13-10, 6-7. Valley Christian fell to 7-16, 2-11.

Girls basketball

NO. 1 PIEDMONT 80, BERKELEY 21 >> Piedmont, playing at home, ended the regular season undefeated after its dominating win over Berkeley in West Alameda County Conference play. Eva Levingston (15 points), Natalia Martinez (13 points), Adrienne Blackwell (13 points) and Perseas Gioukaris (11 points) scored in double figures for Piedmont, which improved to 24-0, 9-0. Berkeley fell to 5-20, 0-10.

NO. 4 OAKLAND TECH 72, FREMONTOAK­LAND 5 >> Oakland Tech rolled past visiting Fremont in an OAL game. Mari Somvichian (18 points), Erin Sellers (17 points) and Nia Hunter (13 points) scored in double figures for Tech, which improved to 23-5, 8-0.

NO. 6 SAN RAMON VALLEY 73, FOOTHILL 30 >> San Ramon Valley extended its winning streak to 14 games and punched its ticket to the East Bay Athletic League championsh­ip game with a win over visiting Foothill. Sierra Chambers led the way with 20 points while Amanda Kerner and Anneka Lupinek added 12 points each for San Ramon Valley, which improved to 24-3. Foothill fell to 9-15.

NO. 11 MONTE VISTA 65, GRANADA 64 >> Monte Vista, playing on the road in Livermore, narrowly escaped with a win over Granada to advance to the EBAL tournament final. Rachel Brans scored a career-high 24 points, Nia Coleman had 15 points and Alyssa Rudd finished with 10 points for Monte Vista. Alexa Pletschett­e led Granada with 33 points. Monte Vista improved to 21-5. The Mustangs play at San Ramon Valley on Saturday in the final. Granada slipped to 14-12.

NO. 20 CRYSTAL SPRINGS UPLANDS 43, MENLO SCHOOL 30 >> Crystal Springs bounced back from Tuesday's loss to Pinewood with a win over visiting Menlo School. Morgan Cook scored 11 points, Caitlyn Kramer had nine points and Raelyn Dela Cruz finished with seven points for Crystal Springs (18-3, 8-1). Menlo fell to 12-9, 4-5.
