The 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum Edition AWD SUV

You Are What You Drive — A Bottom Line Review

- By Tony Leopardo

The Bottom Line: What is a Rogue? A Rogue is a 5 passenger compact crossover SUV built at the Nissan Assembly Plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, and sold in North America by Nissan. This huge automotive factory has been around since 1983, and employs about 8,000 people. Today the Smyrna plant manufactures the Nissan Maxima, Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Leaf, Infiniti QX60, Nissan Murano, and the Nissan Rogue.

Rogue is sold in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. Prices start at $27,360, plus the destination charge, for the base S trim SUV with FWD front wheel drive. The top shelf Platinum Edition trim is priced from $37,140, and AWD all wheel drive can be added to any Rogue model for $1,500 more.

So, is the 2023 Nissan Rogue a good SUV? Yes, the 2023 Rogue is a very good SUV. This crossover SUV offers lively handling, and its suspension is tuned for a smooth ride. Inside, you’ll find some of the most comfortable seats in the compact SUV class, along with plenty of room for 5 adults. The major change for 2023 is the addition of the Midnight package for the SV trim, and all models now have Amazon Alexa connectivity.

This week Nissan sent me a 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum Edition AWD SUV with a base window sticker price of $38,640. The options on the test SUV are: the premium paint for $395, the external ground lighting package for $620, the floor mats and cargo area floor protectors for $425, the illuminated kick plates for $400, the interior accent lighting package for $350, the frameless rear view mirror with universal remotes for $400, and the Platinum Premium package for $620.

The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,295 destination charge is: $43,145. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the drive off the dealers lot and into your garage total purchase price came to: $48,538.

As the average automotive sales transaction price today is at $48,000, this 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum Edition is a premium grade SUV priced within everybody’s budget.

First, the size is just right, not too big, not too small, it’s just the perfect size for a family SUV. Second, it has the power and torque to make it a very nice everyday driver, and third, you get a fuel economy rating of 28 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and 31 MPG overall in combined driving. A great price, good fuel economy, and it drives really nice, for the average sales price of all the cars, trucks, crossovers and SUV’s sold in America.

The 2023 Rogue is powered by a 1.5L liter twin turbocharged 3 cylinder 12 valve gas engine, with 201 HP horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. This inline three cylinder is mated to a CVT continuously variable automatic transmission and FWD front wheel drive. AWD all wheel drive is optional, and is delivered by an intelligent all wheel drive traction control system, with drive mode select thru a dial-in electronic transfer case.

Is the Nissan Rogue Platinum Edition a luxury SUV? As Nissan’s luxury car division, Infiniti, usually has more opulent interiors, Nissan made sure the Rogue Platinum Edition doesn’t feel any less premium. Decked out with semi-aniline leather seating with a diamond quilt pattern, the Platinum Edition interiors are as good looking and comfortable as any of the Infiniti models.

Is the Rogue Platinum worth the money? The Platinum Edition is worth it because of its many standard options, and it’s advanced tech. Features like traffic sign recognition, head up display, collision avoidance steering assist, and the front, rear, and side sonar systems, make this Premium Platinum Edition worth buying.

The compact SUV class has the most makes and models of all the small crossover SUV’s to choose from, and every vehicle manufacture has an SUV model in this class. The Rogue stands tall when compared to all the compact SUV competition when you consider the gas mileage, the premium options, and the tech available at this entry level price.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact crossover SUV, the 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum Edition AWD should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s one of the best award winning SUV’s for sale in the entire compact crossover SUV class.
