Menlo School claimed the NorCal team championship on Saturday at the Broadstone Sports Club in Folsom with a 4-3 victory over Cupertino, avenging a loss to the same opponent and by the same score in the Central Coast Section final a week earlier.

“That made us hungry,” senior co-captain Tudor Braicu said in Menlo's news release. “The only way we could improve was our mental game. And we were ready to fight.”

Menlo defeated Oak Ridge and Mission San Jose to reach the final round.

“It was a true team effort,” said longtime Menlo coach Bill Shine, who announced this spring that next school year will be his last. “There were some really long rallies, and these kids persevered and they're happy they're bringing the championship back.”

Crystal Springs Uplands' Anthony Lim won the CCS singles championship when he defeated Half Moon Bay's Charlie Underwood 6-4, 5-7 and 1-0 (12) on Thursday.

Cupertino's Tommy Kim and Ethan Chung defeated Leigh's pairing of Kollin Nguyen-Ngo and Magnus Weng 6-1, 6-1 on that same day to win CCS doubles.
