The 2024 Buick Encore GX Sport Touring AWD SUV

You Are What You Drive — A Bottom Line Review

- By Tony Leopardo THE CAR GUY @ AUTOWIRE.NET

What is an Encore? The Encore is a subcompact crossover SUV built by General Motors in Bupyeong Gu, Korea, and sold worldwide by Buick. The 2024 Encore GX is a small SUV offered in three trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir. All have FWD front wheel drive as standard equipment, and AWD all wheel drive is optional.

For a Buick, GX stands for Grand Crossover. This signifies a crossover SUV with a more premium set of features, a larger body design and a more luxurious driving experience overall. Compared to the standard Buick Encore, the Encore GX boasts a number of extra enhancements that will make all the difference in your purchase decision.

The Sport Touring edition puts a little more attitude into the Encore GX’s personality. It has a standard 1.3L liter Ecotec 4 cylinder turbocharged engine bolted to a 9 speed automatic transmission, unique gloss black exterior accents and black grille with 18” gloss black wheels. The Encore GX Sport Touring is an SUV with more premium upgrades than many of the other models without getting into luxury brand pricing.

This week Buick sent me a 2024 Encore GX Sport Touring AWD SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Sport Touring edition is: $28,400. The options on the test SUV are: the experience Buick package for $1,695, the comfort package for $1,295, the Bose premium sound system for $500, the metallic paint for $495, and the black roof package for $395. The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,295 delivery charge, is: $34,075.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $38,335. At $10 Grand less than the average transaction price for all vehicles in 2023, you can have a brand new 2024 Buick Encore GX in your driveway today and be on your adventurous road trip tomorrow.

The Sport Touring Edition builds off the Preferred trim and offers the option of a more potent 153 horsepower 1.4L liter turbocharged engine. Standard features include remote start, fog lights, a rear spoiler, 19” high gloss Midnight Silver aluminum alloy wheels and an exclusive black grille with chrome brush stroke like accents.

Connectivity & Technology starts with an 11” HD color touchscreen, Bluetooth, audio streaming, voice command pass through to cell phones, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM Radio, OnStar, keyless open, keyless start, front & rear USB ports and a multi colored driver information digital display system in the center dashboard.

Then Buick adds in a panoramic power moonroof, remote vehicle starting, a driver 8 way power seat with 2 way power lumbar control, a heated steering wheel, heated front bucket seats, a flat folding rear seat back, a center armrest with phone storage, a Bose premium upgraded audio system with 7 speakers and start and stop engine override controls.

Buick is in the midst of a major product push that will see the brand introduce 5 new or updated models within the next 18 months. The journey began with the new Encore GX; which is now the best selling Buick model and sales have skyrocketed 98% in 2023.

Buicks are considered luxury vehicles due to their style, comfort, high end materials and sophistication. So, when you’re ready for a new subcompact SUV, and you want a nice running, driving and sensibly priced crossover, then the 2024 Buick Encore GX Sport Touring AWD SUV should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s one of the newest and best priced small SUV’s in the entire subcompact crossover 2024 SUV class.

Go with the Encore and you’re getting a nice sized SUV that’s a bit more premium than the other mainstream models. Call, click or visit your local Buick dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review on the new 2024 Buick Encore GX Sport Touring AWD SUV. And remember that the base price for a new Encore GX starts at only $25,600.

And yes, Buick, like most automobile manufacturers, has a catchy slogan. While the most recent Buick tag line is, Buick - The Craft of Modern Luxury, it has transformed since David Dunbar Buick incorporated the company as the Buick Motor Company on May 19, 1903, in Detroit, Michigan. For decades their slogan was, “When better automobiles are built, Buick will build them,” and then in 1965 it was, “Wouldn’t you really rather have a Buick?” - I like that one.

Be smart, stay safe, and just breathe. Remember, You Are What You Drive, and maybe, just for those reasons alone, you should Drive one, Buy one, Today. Have a great day, take care, and enjoy the ride - Tony the Car Guy.
