Bills' Hamlin plays, completes comeback

-

Damar Hamlin's objective to resume his playing career after a near-death experience in early January became complete on Sunday, when the Bills safety took the field as part of Buffalo's kickoff return unit to open its game against the Miami Dolphins.

The kickoff resulted in a touchback, but it marked a key milestone for Hamlin in appearing in his first regular-season game some nine months since going into cardiac arrest and needing to be resuscitated on the field during a game at Cincinnati. Hamlin also appeared on the Bills' kickoff coverage team after Buffalo opened the scoring on Josh Allen's 18yard TD pass to Gabe Davis.

Hamlin was a healthy scratch through the Bills first three games this season, and got the nod to play with starting safety Jordan Poyer sidelined by a knee injury. Primary backup Taylor Rapp filled Poyer's spot alongside Micah Hyde, with the third-year player serving as a backup in facing a highpowered Dolphins offense that led the league in most every statistical category. STEELERS QB PICKETT INJURES KNEE>> Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett sustained a knee injury in the third quarter against Houston and didn't return.

Trailing by 10, the Steelers went for it on fourthand-1 from the Houston 33 with about 90 seconds left in the third quarter. But Pickett was sacked by Jonathan Greenard to give the Texans the ball back.

Pickett remained on the ground for a couple of minutes after the hit before trainers came out to attend to him. He slowly got to his feet and limped off the field before going into the medical tent on the sideline.

He remained there for a few minutes before walking to the locker room. The team said he had a knee injury but did not specify which knee was injured.

He was replaced by Mitch Trubisky.

BILLS' WHITE FEARED LOST FOR SEASON >> Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White was carted off the field with what's feared to be a season-ending injury to his right Achilles tendon in the third quarter of Buffalo's game against Miami.

Coach Sean McDermott said White was still being evaluated following a 4820 victory. McDermott then grew emotional when discussing a player who missed a calendar year after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee in December 2021.

White was hurt in the final minute of the third quarter while covering receiver Tyreek Hill up the right sideline. White suddenly pulled up favoring his right leg and fell to the turf. RODGERS REJOINS JETS TEAMMATES >> Aaron Rodgers arrived at MetLife Stadium in a golf cart holding crutches and joined his New York Jets teammates before their game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rodgers had been healing and rehabilitating at home in Malibu after having surgery 21/2 weeks ago to repair a torn left Achilles tendon. Rodgers was injured four snaps into his debut with the Jets on Sept. 11 against Buffalo.
