Titans QB Tannehill won't play on Sunday

-

The Tennessee Titans ruled veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill out for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with a high right ankle sprain.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel wasn't ready Friday to announce if rookie Will Levis or second-year pro Malik Willis will start in Tannehill's place.

Tannehill, 35, hurt his ankle Oct. 15 in a 24-16 loss to Baltimore in London and couldn't finish. He hurt the same ankle twice last season, costing him five games. He didn't practice this week coming off Tennessee's bye.

Willis has played in 10 games and is 1-2 as a starter. He relieved Tannehill after his injury in London and completed 4 of 5 passes for 74 yards.

The Titans traded up to No. 33 overall to draft Levis out of Kentucky in April. If he plays Sunday, he will be making his NFL debut with 23 tickets for family and friends ready to watch.

Levis would become the third rookie quarterback to start a game inside the AFC South this season, joining Anthony Richardson of the Colts and Houston's C.J. Stroud. Bryce Young, Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Aidan O'Connell and Tyson Bagent are other rookies to start at quarterback in 2023.

GIANTS QB JONES OUT AGAIN >> New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will miss his third consecutive game with a neck injury, and Tyrod Taylor will start on Sunday against the Jets.

Doctors have not cleared Jones for contact since he was hurt on a blindside sack against Miami on Oct. 8.

Jones has repeatedly said his neck is feeling better, and he has been allowed to throw at practice in individual drills. He seemed to have made progress last week when he was listed as questionable for the game against the Washington Commanders.

This week, he was ruled out two days before the contest, and coach Brian Daboll had no idea when he would be cleared by medical personnel.

Taylor has played well the past two games, leading New York to a 14-7 win over the Commanders on Sunday when he threw two touchdown passes. JAGUARS WR JONES SIDELINED >> Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Zay Jones won't play at Pittsburgh on Sunday because of a lingering right knee injury.

He will miss his fifth game in six weeks for the Jaguars (5-2).

Jones has eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns this season. He injured his knee against Kansas City in Week 2 and missed the next two games. He returned against Buffalo in London and caught three passes for 23 yards and a score before re-injuring his knee. He hasn't played since.
