Help us select our high school Athletes of the Week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News and East Bay Times) girls and boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performanc­es from April 8-13.

Polls can be found on our websites — mercurynew­s.com/sports/high-school-sports/ or eastbaytim­es.com/sports/high-schoolspor­ts/ Voting closes at 5p.m. Wednesday. Vote as many times as you'd like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the sports sections. Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschool­s@ bayareanew­sgroup.com.

We accept nomination­s until 11a.m. each Monday. We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statistici­ans. On to the nominees:

GIRLS Olivia Abbott, Sacred Heart Prep lacrosse:

Abbott, a sophomore, scored eight goals, had five assists and 37draw controls in three games last week. She had three goals and four assists in a 19-3 victory over St. Francis to start the threegame set.

Millie Bartlett, St. Ignatius lacrosse: Bartlett, a junior, scored twice in the first period as St. Ignatius defeated San Ramon Valley 14-10. The Wildcats improved to 10-4and a WCAL-best 5-1.

Isabella Flores, Piedmont Hills softball: Flores, a sophomore, had a pitching performanc­e for the ages in a 7-0shutout against Santa Clara. She struck out 20 and allowed just one walk in a complete game.

Avery Motroni, Capuchino softball: Motroni, a junior, was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a home run against Notre DameBelmon­t. The day before, she went 3 for 3 with a double against Aragon.

Clare O'Brien, Mercy lacrosse: O'Brien, a junior, scored six goals and had two assists in a victory over Presentati­on. She also had five goals and one assist in a match against Notre Dame-San Jose. Caitlin Osmond, Dougherty Valley lacrosse: Osmond, a junior goalkeeper, had 11saves in a 10-2victory over Livermore. Osmond has 68 saves on the season. Hailey Pan, Mission San Jose softball: Pan, a junior, struck out nine while throwing a no-hitter in a 7-0victory over Washington. She improved to 4-0 on the season in the circle, and Pan also has a .333 batting average.

Janessa Parras, James Logan softball: Parras, a senior, was 2 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs scored in a win over Mission San Jose. Parras is batting exactly .500 with 15 RBIs this season.

Ava Varo, Dublin track and field: Varo, a senior, won the long jump event with a leap of 15-2 1/2 at the Granada Distance and Sprint festival. It was the second time Varo had won a long jump event this season.

Kiya Vasquez, Sobrato softball:

Vasquez, a senior, had two hits and an RBI in Sobrato's 4-1victory over ranked Branham. She ended the week hitting .413 with three home runs and 12 RBIs on the season.

BOYS Andrew Aburano, Valley Christian track and field:

Aburano won the 100and 200-meter races at the Central Coast Section Last Chance Invite over the weekend. He won the 100 with a time of 10.83 and finished the 200 in 22.22 seconds.

AJ Becker, Foothill lacrosse: The junior had six goals and was a key contributo­r on defense across two games against Dougherty Valley and Monte Vista. Foothill is 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league this season.

Theo Canada, Hillsdale lacrosse: Canada had five goals and two assists in a 16-4 win against Aragon. Hillsdale is 6-5, 2-2.

Luke DeVine, St. Francis baseball: DeVine was 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs in the Lancers' 9-4 win over Bellarmine. The senior is hitting .348and has 13 RBIs this season.

Matthew Foley, Amador Valley baseball:

The senior pitched a complete game, striking out five in Amador's 5-2 win over Granada. The Dons ended Granada's 16-game winning streak and handed the Livermore school its first loss of the season.

Tanner Kern, Archbishop Mitty baseball: Kern drove in four runs and had two doubles in a 6-5win over St. Ignatius. Mitty is 12-7-1.

Gio Martini, Heritage baseball: Martini had three hits and two RBIs in a 10-5win over Liberty. The Patriots (13-3-1) are currently in first place in the Bay Valley Athletic League.

Cameron Millar, Alhambra baseball: The junior pitched a complete game shutout, striking out six and allowing four hits in a 1-0win over Berean Christian.

Devin Saltzgaber, Sacred Heart Prep baseball: Saltzgaber struck out 10in six innings in a 2-0 upset win over Menlo School.

Theodore Zabel, Oakland Tech track and field:

The sophomore won the 1,600-meter run at the Granada Distance & Sprint Festival with a time of 6:01.26.
