Area students are making the grade
Alainna D. Rehrer, daughter of Mark and Linda Rehrer of Royersford, graduated summa cum laude from the College of Health Sciences at West Chester University with a bachelor of arts degree in communicative sciences and disorders. She is a 2011 graduate of Spring-Ford High School.
Jacob Wisser of Phoenixville is the recipient of a Goldwater Scholarship from the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The scholarship is the premier award of its type in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering. Wisser is a physics major and mathematics minor in Penn State’s Eberly College of Science Integrated Undergraduate Graduate Program, in which he will complete both bachelor of science and master degrees in physics in four years. Wisser also is a scholar in Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College. He is an undergraduate researcher where he studies molecular beam epitaxial growth of thin films.
John-Michael Dronson of Green Lane was named the top student in La Salle University’s graduate Professional Clinical Counseling program.
Amber West, daughter of Gregory and Teresa West of Birdsboro, was named to the dean’s scholar list at the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.
Kendra Houck of Sanatoga, a homeschooled student, has received both her high school diploma and an associates degree from Montgomery County Community College in liberal studies. A dual enrollment student at MCCC, Houck began her college studies the spring of her eighth grade year in middle school. She is also one of only 44 students statewide to be named to the Pa All-Academic Team which awarded her a full-tuition scholarship to any of the 14 state schools within Pennsylvania. Houck was named a Silver Scholar (one of only 50 recipients nationwide) by the Coca-Cola Foundation, and a Carol Whitcombe Memorial Award winner from MCCC. She has also served as the youngest President of Phi Theta Kappa Chapter of West Campus and possibly nationwide. Houck will attend West Chester University to study clinical psychology.
Janine Faust, daughter of Ilka and Glenn Faust of Upper Pottsgrove, has had her poetry entry in the National High School Poetry Contest accepted for publication in the summer edition of the American High School Poets “My World” anthology. It is published by the Live Poets Society of New Jersey in conjunction with JUST POETRY!!!, the National High School Poetry Quarterly Magazine. Faust is a student at Pottsgrove High School.
Sarah Douglas, daughter of Becki and Cameron Douglas of Schwenksville, graduated from Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn. with a liberal arts degree in international studies. She is a
graduate of Rutgers Preparatory School.
Area residents were among those named to the dean’s list at Misericordia University.
They are Meghan Antrim, Wyatt Scott and Nicole Grassi of Pottstown; Kacy Carroll of Sanatoga; Sarah Collins of Stowe; and Meghan Stack of Douglassville.
Daniel Minogue of Phoenixville and a senior philosophy major in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College, took first place and a $20,000 cash prize with two other team members for their entrepreneurial company, Subversive Malting and Brewing, in the second annual Business Plan Competition. A pre-prohibition style malt house and brewery located in the Hudson Valley, Subversive Malting and Brewing aims to forge local economy connections among brewers, beer-lovers and farmers.

and a bachelor of science degree in health sciences.
Two local residents are among students who graduated from Tulane University, New Orleans.
Dylan Fox of Chester Springs graduated from the A. B. Freeman School of Business with a certificate, and the A. B. Freeman School of Business with a bachelor of science management degree.
Adam Rouan of Schwenksville graduated from the School of Science and Engineering with a bachelor of science degree.
Two area residents are among those who graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass.
They are Patrick Joseph Restrepo of Chester Springs, a bachelor of arts degree; and Jeffrey S. Knighton Jr. of Pottstown, a bachelor of arts degree.
Nicole Cannell of Douglassville graduated from George Mason University, Fairfax, Va. with a degree in criminology, law and society, and a minor in conflict analysis and resolution. She was also named to the dean’s list. Cannell fulfilled requirements for a four-year degree in three years. She is a 2012 graduate of Daniel Boone High School.
