It figured the bats would decide Saturday’s game between the Boyertown and Norchester American Legion baseball teams.

With the teams’ pitchers — Andrew Bauer for the Bears, Kutter Endy for the Bulldogs — in a close duel, offense could be the difference. That turned out to be the case on the side of Boyertown, which went on to post a 4-2 victory in this Berks County League pairing at Bear Stadium.

While Bauer and Endy matched each other with five-hitters into the eighth inning, Boyertown (3-0 league, 6-3-2 overall) broke through for four runs in the fifth inning to emerge triumphant. Endy had not allowed a baserunner going into that fifth inning, but the Bears sent nine batters to the plate in producing their lone offensive output.

Endy had retired the side in six of his seven complete innings. He finished with four strikeouts against five hits and two walks.

Mike Raineri capped Boyertown’s big inning with a two-run single. Austin Madeja and Ryan Jacobs drove in the other runs in support of Bauer, who scattered five hits and one walk while striking out six.

Collin McCourt and Ethan Gallagher (2-for-3) drove in the Norchester runs while Joe Zgleszewski chipped in with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The Bulldogs got their first run in the third, then added the second in the seventh. SPRING CITY 11, WEST CHESTER 1 >> The Red Sox went on a scoring tear in the fourth, plating seven runs to come away with a five-inning romp over West Chester in Chester County League play.

Jeremiah Ndjali (3-for-3, double) and Owen Gulati (2-for-2) each drove in pairs of runs to help Spring City pad its initial 4-0 lead. Vinnie Togno got the complete-game pitching decision, scattering four hits while striking out four.

NORCHESTER 3, PHOENIXVILLE 1 >> Dan Stofko tossed a two-hitter through six innings, struck out five and walked one and the Big Dawgz beat host Phoenixville in a Twin-County League game. Dawson Stuart pitched the final inning for the save.

Stuart also went 1-for-4 with an RBI at the plate while Ryan Cusic was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Austyn Levengood went 1-for-2, with the Big Dawgz now 3-0, 13-0. SPRING CITY 3, UPPER PERK 0 >> The Red Sox got a solid pitching performance from Ryan Fitzpatrick as they blanked UP in Twin-County League action.

Fitzpatrick gave up just two hits and two walks, with two strikeouts to his credit. The Sox got an RBI triple from Ryan Harvey and an RBI single from Luke Piontek in the bottom of the sixth to give Fitzpatrick breathing room. BEAR-CUBS WIN TWICE >> The Boyertown Bear-Cubs came out on top in two Berks County League games. Boyertown handled Exeter, 5-1, at home in the afternoon before routing host Kutztown at night, 18-0.

Against Exeter, the Bear-Cubs (6-0, 16-3) got a four-hit, five-strikeout complete game from Noah Kurtz. Mason Quinn drove in two runs while Tate Yergey and Nick Esz each had one RBI.

Against Kutztown, Boyertown got a combined one-hitter from Hunter Bales, winning pitcher Colin Maloney and Nick Esz. Eric Randall, Yergey, Esz and Shayne Horrocks each drove in pairs of runs.
