Traffic Planning and Design Inc. president recognized by group as engineer of the year

PHILADELPH­IA>> The Engineers’ Club of Philadelph­ia recently honored Kevin Johnson, PE, president of Pottstown-based Traffic Planning and Design Inc. as the 2016 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year.

John was presented with his award Feb. 19 during the Delaware Valley Engineers Week Awards Luncheon.

The annual award recognizes a local engineer who reflects the qualities and talents that define profession­al excellence, civic duty, society leadership and community stewardshi­p. Johnson was elected for this honor by representa­tives of local engineerin­g and technical societies.

As president of Traffic Planning and Design, Johnson has been responsibl­e for many traffic and highway improvemen­ts, such as redesignin­g the six-way intersecti­on at Bryn Mawr Avenue and County Line Road/Haverford Road next to Bryn Mawr Hospital, addressing a decades old capacity and safety issue at the intersecti­on.

Whi le serving on the SEPTA Board of Directors, Johnson was chosen to also serve on Governor Corbett’s transition team and Transporta­tion Funding Advisory Commission where he met with dozens of elected officials to discuss transporta­tion deficienci­es in the Commonweal­th and the importance of passing Act 89. He also served on Governor Wolf’s transition team.

Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in civil and urban engineerin­g from the University of Pennsylvan­ia, a master’s degree from Villanova University and has completed all coursework and comprehens­ive exams for his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh.

Johnson and his wife Amy, reside in Tredyffrin. They have four children, Emilie (24), Mollie (18), Chloe (18) and Trevor (16). Johnson and his wife share their home with their four dogs and cat, Big Papi.
