Eagles win coin flip, snag 14th pick in draft
Also eyeing trade for Saints WR Cooks

The Eagles racked up their first victory of the offseason Friday, winning the coin flip elevating them to the 14th overall pick in the draft.
The Indianapolis Colts lost, leaving them with the 15th selection in the April 27-29th lottery outside the Philadelphia Art Museum. The coin flip took place at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
The Eagles also are eying a trade for a wide receiver in Brandin Cooks, per reports.
What’s puzzling is Cooks reportedly wanting out of New Orleans, where quarterback Drew Brees, third on the all-time NFL passing yardage list, made him a 1,000-yard receiver in back-to-back seasons.
The Eagles and the Titans reportedly are near the top of the list. The asking price is a first-round pick.
Cooks has one year left on his rookie deal, which basically means the team that secures him would sign him to a contract extension.
Cooks (5-9 1-2, 189) isn’t big but he’s fast, having clocked a 4.33 in the 40yard dash at the 2014 combine. Then Eagles head coach Chip Kelly appreciated the skills of Cooks, the product of Oregon State. Kelly also got rid of DeSean Jackson and let Jeremy Maclin walk in free agency.
Cooks is better statistically than what the Eagles have. That basically tells you everything you need to know about just how badly this wide receiving corps is in need of an upgrade.
Pairing Cooks with 6-5 quarterback Carson Wentz, who throws high, doesn’t necessarily seem like a winning formula. Then again, the last time the Eagles thought they’d landed a big, rangy, differencemaking receiver in Dorial Green-Beckham, they were so underwhelmed they’re reportedly seeking another high draft pick. Cooks was the 20th overall selection in 2014.
