Virginia (Cress) “Ginny” Groff, 94, of West Chester
Virginia (Cress) “Ginny” Groff, 94, wife of the late Darlington H. Groff, Jr. of West Chester, died on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
She was born in Phoenixville on June 27, 1922 to the late William and Eva (Tyson) Cress.
Ginny graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1940. She owned Groff’s Country Store in Phoenixville from 1962 to 2010 where she sold gifts and ladies apparel.
She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Phoenixville, the Phoenixville Historical Society and the Montgomery County Historical Society. Her interests included knitting, genealogy, and playing Bridge.
Ginny is survived by her daughter, Linda, wife of Joseph Turoczi, of Spring City; son, William, husband of Deborah Groff, of Elverson; son, Darlington Groff, of Shallotte, N.C.; two grandsons, Benjamin, husband of April Turoczi, of Devon, Erik, husband of Erica Groff, of Englewood, Fla.; three great granddaughters, Lily and Everly Turoczi Maddie Groff. She is preceded in death by sisters Elizabeth Zimmer and Miriam Webb.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 315 Gay St., Phoenixville on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Morris Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The Clinic, 143 Church St., Phoenixville, PA 19460.
