M. Lawrence Smith, 93, of Upper Frederick, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Frederick Living.

Born Sept. 15, 1923 in Berne, Ind., he was the son of the late Martin L. and Jennie A. (Tinkham) Smith. He and his wife of 50 years, Marlene J. (Ruth) Smith, were married on March 17, 1967 in Quakertown.

Larry was the administra­tor for the Frederick Mennonite Community, now Frederick Living, for 25 years. He also served as the United States Army Chaplain’s assistant, was pastor of Saucon New Mennonite Church, Coopersbur­g, Pa. and worked for the Arrow Camera Shop, Pottstown, for 10 years.

Larry served his country honorably as a corporal in the United States Army. He was a longtime faithful member of Trinity Evangelica­l Congregati­onal Church, Boyertown, where he played piano and organ for many years. He also played piano for Bethany Evangelica­l Congregati­onal Church, Pleasantvi­lle and played organ and piano for East Swamp New Mennonite Church, Quakertown. He was a 1941 graduate of Berne High School, Berne, Ind. and a 1956 graduate of the Philadelph­ia College of the Bible. In addition to his wife, Marlene, Larry is survived by his son, Donald L. Smith, husband of Lisa M. (Haywood) Smith, Port Matilda and his daughter, Deborah C. (Smith) Seasholtz, wife of Robert S. Seasholtz, Green Lane. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren, Sarah wife of Austin, Rebekah, David, Julia, David, Nathaniel, Ilse and Konrad.

A celebratio­n of life service for Larry will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelica­l Congregati­onal Church, 250 Sweinhart Road, Boyertown, with the Rev. Pastor John Friedlund officiatin­g. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in Larry’s memory to Trinity Evangelica­l Congregati­onal Church, 250 Sweinhart Road, Boyertown, PA 19512.
