Proposed power plant has drawbacks
The proposed Birdsboro Power Plant will cost homeowners money, increase health issues, create environmental problems and will not provide promised jobs.
EmberClear Corp. of Canada has never completed a project and has declared bankruptcy. Ember Partners LP, who is in charge of the Birdsboro Power Plant, is an entity organized by EmberClear’s management.
Only 20 full-time jobs, most requiring a specialist’s education, will be available at the plant (http://bit.ly/2o7wsBB).
Home values will decrease because every power plant decreases home values, but no power plant has ever been built so close to homes, so there are no comparables to indicate how far values will plunge (http://bit. ly/1FalEqU).
One of the most obvious health concerns is particulate matter pollution, which causes respiratory issues. Quality of life will be compromised as a result of additional noise and lights.
An underground 14-mile transmission pipe will destroy wildlife habitat and cross 26 water bodies including the Schuylkill River (http://bit.ly/2nFWRdA). A 2-mile water line and 4-mile overhead power transmission line will also damage habitat.
All of these problems are guarantees if the proposed Birdsboro Power Plant proceeds. Of course there is also the possibility of leaks, spills and much bigger accidents. Are Birdsboro residents getting enough to trade their health, home and environmental security?
