James Skarbek, 66
James Skarbek, 66, husband of Irene D. (Messer) Skarbek passed away on Thursday June 15, 2017.
Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Maurice Skarbek and Laura (Grejdus) Skarbek.
Jim graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1969 and attended Walsh College in Ohio. He worked as a machinist for Dana Corporation for 35 years and then as an independent Courier until his retirement in 2013.
Jim was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish and the former St. Peter’s Parish.
Jim served on the Board of the Diamond Credit Union, was a UAW union Representative while at Dana, and a member of the Dana Quarter Century Club. Jim also was an avid golfer and played in many leagues.
Jim was a loving father to his five children. He was active in their lives from coaching St. Peter’s Girls basketball for his daughters, Coaches AC and Pottstown Little League baseball for his sons and also Jim was involved in the boys Pottstown Penguins and the Kings Ice Hockey Teams.
One of Jim’s greatest pleasures was traveling to Las Vegas with his wife and family members. He was proudest while watching his grandchildren play sports and attending their concerts.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 44 years are three sons, Lee (Lara) of Springfield, Mark (Amy) of Pottstown, and Kevin of Reading; two daughters, Maria Buck of Ohio and Lisa Zottola (Joseph) of Pittsburgh; and 13 grandchildren, Will, Ben, Corinne, Drew, Ethan, Conner, Derek, Dylan, Dawson, Sophia, Nathan, Monica and Brandon. Jim is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Cindy) of West Chester and Richard (Linda) of Pottstown. Also surviving are his father-in-law, Frederick Messer, sister-in-law Geri Roussey (Don), brotherin-law Ron Messer (Dori) and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Margaret Messer, and nephew John Mays.
A viewing will be Wednesday evening June 21, 2017 from 7-9 P.M. at Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, 726 East High St., Pottstown, PA.
Jim’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11 A.M. in St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C.C. 256 Swamp Pike Schwenksville, PA. A viewing will be held prior to the Mass from 9-10:30 A.M. Thursday at the church.
Interment will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Lower Pottsgrove Township.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jim’s name to any youth sport organization.
