Lane closures scheduled for Route 422
A lane closure is scheduled on Route 422 for sign installation.
A right lane closure and intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages will take place on Monday on westbound U.S. 422 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpass and the First Avenue Interchange in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, and Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County. The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for sign structure installation, PennDOT announced Thursday.
In the event of rain, the contractor will perform the work Tuesday night or Wednesday night.
PennDOT advises drivers to allow additional time for travel on westbound Route 422 near the construction zone because backups will occur.
This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry Route 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project includes improving Route 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with Route 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
