Boyertown: A Virtual Dementia Experience to help caregivers understand the struggles of living with dementia will be held on Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. at Chestnut Knoll, 120 W. 5th St. As part of this group virtual tour, selected participants will be given sets of everyday tasks to be completed while senses are impaired, which simulates the physical and mental difficulties associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, such as loss of auditory interpretation, increased confusion, loss of central and peripheral vision and more. The rest of the group is able to observe, discuss and better understand the dementia process. This event is free and open to the public; however,

Boyertown: Two programs will be offered by The Center at Spring Street, a program of Boyertown Area Multi-Service, 200 W. Spring St. and are open to adults age 55 years and older. A free educational program “Heat Related Illnesses and the Importance of Staying Hydrated” will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, July 24, by Boyertown Lions Ambulance Service. People aged 65 years or older are less likely to sense and respond to changes in temperature. Learn tips for preventing heat related illnesses as well as warning signs of those illnesses. You will also receive information on how to help someone experiencing a heat-related emergency. Along with many other important functions, water helps regulate body temperature. Learn why it is so important for good health to stay hydrated. Walk-ins are welcome. AAA Driver Improvement Course for first time participants will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 27, at The Center at Spring Street, 200 Spring Street in Boyertown. This is an eight-hour course. The cost is $15 for AAA members, $25 for nonmembers, $25 per couple when both are AAA members, and no cost for veterans. To register call AAA at 610-374-4531.
