Police looking for tall man in purple dress who robbed bank
STATE COLLEGE, PA. » Police are looking for a tall man who wore a purple dress and an ivory-colored hood when he robbed a credit union in Pennsylvania.
Ferguson Township police say the man threatened to use a gun and a bomb if a teller refused to give him money, but didn’t display either object at SPE Federal Credit Union about 4 p.m. Tuesday. Police posted a picture from the bank’s surveillance cameras on the department’s Facebook page.
Police say bank employees were able to determine the suspect was a man about 6 feet tall.
Police do not know if Tuesday bomb threats at a Walmart and Penn State Research West in the area are linked to the heist.
Police haven’t said how much money was stolen.
Woman convicted of third-degree murder in toddler’s death
CLEARFIELD, PA. » A Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of third-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend’s 2-year-old daughter while baby-sitting the child more than 3½ years ago.
Jurors in Clearfield County deliberated for less than two hours Wednesday before convicting 22-yearold Jennifer Medzie of the charge while acquitting her of first-degree murder.
Police and doctors said Sophia Lauder had been shaken violently while Medzie was watching her at a Bradford Township home in November 2013. Medzie told police the child fainted in her arms.
Medzie took the stand in her own defense Wednesday.
Storms down trees, power lines; delay Little League game
PITTSBURGH » Strong thunderstorms that moved across much of Pennsylvania downed trees and power lines, cutting power to thousands and even postponing a game in the Little League World Series.
Tuesday’s storms also prompted tornado watches and warnings in various places — including Williamsport, where the Little Leaguers are gathered for their annual championship — but there were no immediate reports that any funnels actually touched down.
About 5,000 people lost power in the afternoon and evening in the Westmoreland County area, about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, but that service was largely restored by Wednesday morning.
The area around WilkesBarre, in the northeastern part of the state, was also particularly hard hit. Trees there blocked roads, came down on homes.
No serious injuries were immediately reported.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for the defendant, who’s charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Man wounded by police in Philadelphia charged
PHILADELPHIA » A man shot and wounded by police in north Philadelphia has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property and another firearms count.
Authorities said 39-yearold Anthony Middleton was spotted on a west Kensington sidewalk with a gun just after 11 p.m. Saturday by a sergeant on bike patrol. He fled down an alley, and the sergeant said he saw the suspect raising the weapon in his direction, so he fired four rounds, hitting the suspect in the leg and right side. Police said his loaded semi-automatic pistol had been reported stolen in Clearfield.
Court documents indicate that Middleton will be represented by the Defender Association of Philadelphia, where a representative said Wednesday that no attorney had yet been assigned to the case.
