Leave it up to the big oil companies to stick it to us every time. I realize there’s been flooding in Texas but for how many months have they said there’s a glut of oil on the market. Now three or four days after a hurricane in Texas all of sudden the gas went up 20 to 30 cents a gallon. All that is, is an excuse to stick it to the consumer. Of course we have nobody to fight for us and I guess it will go on.
For everyone out there who is concerned about their school and property taxes and wondering why nothing is getting done as far as House Bill 76 goes that would have eliminated it, call state Reps. Marcy Toepel, Tom Quigley and Tim Hennessey, who’s never been any help to us, and ask them why nothing is getting done with the property tax issue and you’ll probably still get the same old runaround.
Clark S. Kent, you really need to study history. Robert E. Lee never owned slaves and did not approve of slavery. Ulysses S. Grant did in fact own slaves. Study history before you spout off.

My nephew went to Boyertown schools. He just graduated and he has two or three friends who are not white and they get along swimmingly. So our school children can certainly teach some people in this country about tolerance.
This is to the person who says Gov. Wolf legalized marijuana. Only one big thing, you forgot to mention it’s medical marijuana. Do a little education first before you say marijuana. If you are going through chemo and stuff like that you can’t keep your food down and you need a little marijuana to help your digestive system. So do a little homework before you just say marijuana.

The new animal cruelty laws just took effect and you can be fined up to $500 and face felony charges if you have your dog outside without proper shelter and water. If you know of an animal owner that is not abiding by these rules please turn the owner in to the SPCA. You do have to give your name to the SPCA but they do not give your name to the person you’re complaining about. Please do it for the animals’ sake. They can’t speak for themselves so we have to do it for them. Bonnie

Nancy Pelosi does not want to remove all of the statues from Washington, D.C. Her primary goal is to remove all statues that are erected to honor traitors, not the great patriots who won the Civil War. Get your facts straight. All Confederate monuments should be removed. They only represent a time that remains very troubling for many people. Take them down.
You just knew that Donald Trump was going to be in trouble when he dropped in on Corpus Christi not Houston where the real problems where. People expected him to express real sympathy from the heart, not a script. Instead they heard him brag how he could draw a big crowd in the middle of a biblical flood which was to say look at me, look at the turn-out for Donald Trump. Only Trump could use a catastrophe for publicity.
To the person who was talking about the Jehovah’s Witnesses that was started by a fictional character, you’re quite right. It was started by a man named Joseph Smith who supposedly had a vision from God. Would you believe any religion or anybody who was named Joe Smith to start a religion? I wouldn’t.
Responding to Disgusted with Sound Off, cool your jets my friend. Look at it this way. I consider it to be a public service provided by The Mercury. If you read it and you see how these people think for the most part that speaks volumes to what’s going on today in this country as far as the government at all levels, federal, state and local. So don’t blame Sound Off, blame the people who call in and think they have the facts and they really don’t have a clue.
Do you ever notice when you pull into a mini-mart out front there is no parking of trucks or vans? This is all left over from 9/11. Stop being afraid. No one’s there to blow up your gas station.
