Substance violations lead crime this week

POTTSTOWN » Drug and alcohol violations were the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week.

According to crimemappi­ng.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, 11 incidents were reported involving drug or alcohol violations. Eight of the 11 incidents involved drug possession and were reported on King Street, the 200 block of Manatawny Street, the 600 block of Manatawny Street, the 100 block of North Franklin Street, two incidents on the 300 block of East High Street and two incidents on the 300 block of Chestnut Street.

Assault and vandalism were each reported four times since Aug. 29. Criminal mischief to vehicles and other items were reported on the 1200 block of North Franklin Street, the 100 block of East High Street, Jefferson Avenue and the 200 block of North Hanover Street.

Assaults involving hands, feet and fists were reported twice on the 200 block of East High Street and the 300 block of Beech Street. One non-aggravated assault was reported on North Franklin Street along with an assault with a knife on the 200 block of Chestnut Street.

Theft and vehicle theft were each reported three times. Vehicle thefts occurred in residentia­l areas including East Fourth Street, the 400 block of King Street and North York Street. Two thefts from buildings occurred on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road and the 100 block of King Street as well as a theft of bicycles from the 300 block of West Walnut Street.

One vehicle break-in was reported on the 400 block of West Walnut Street.
