It was a busy weekend for some local youth football around the area. Here’s a look at how a couple of the local teams fared:

Norchester Red Knights

In Bert Bell Conference action, the Norchester Red Knights youth football organization celebrated its Homecoming on a steamy hot Saturday, Sept. 23rd with a pair of home victories against Oxford. The Red Knights did it the old-fashioned way, with smothering defense and a strong ground game.

The 80 lb. team ran its season record to 3-1 with a 14-0 victory on long scoring runs from Daymein Doctor and Jaiden Carpenter. The offensive line of Bryce Kitchen, Ayden Shaffer, Will Huth, and Jacob Bunting opened holes all game. The defense was anchored up front by Mason Hoffman, Brady Funk, Caden Longworth, Preston Miller, Gabe Psolka, Deon Tanner and Noah Cortez.

The 105 lb. team dropped to 1-3 but played a tight game, losing 19-13.

The 130 lb. team pounded Oxford 21-0 for its third straight shutout, behind a strong team defense and an workmanlike ground game. The Red Knights’ defensive front of Colin King, Jamie Bean and Tony Villarosa terrorized the Bears all day, leading to gamechanging interceptions by Will Whitlock and Avrey Grimm and a key fumble recovery for a touchdown by Sahib Sangihera. The running game ruled the day as offensive linemen Mike Maggio, Bean, Calvin Wolfrey, Garrett Bartosiewicz and Christian Wilson plowed the road for touchdown scrambles by Villarosa and Whitlock.

Pottstown PAL 6th Grade

The Pottstown PAL sixth grade football team picked up a 27-20 win over Perkiomen Valley on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Dillon Mayes rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including a 43-yard yard carry during the first quarter, and also ran in a pair of extra point conversions.

Nahzier Booker came up with an interception during the second quarter, then punched it in for a touchdown on his team’s ensuing drive.

Avon Jones finished the game with a pair of sacks on defense while Jeremy Smith had a rushing touchdown and two interceptions in the win.
