Board to name superintendent
District expected to promote from within to fill top administrator post
SOUTH COVENTRY » After an extensive search and interview process, the Owen J. Roberts School Board will consider the appointment of Susan T. Lloyd as superintendent of schools at its next meeting.
The board is scheduled to meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room of the Owen J. Roberts High School.
Lloyd is the K-6 principal at North Coventry Elementary School, having joined the Owen J. Roberts School District in 2011.
“I am honored to have been asked to serve as superintendent and I look forward to working with the entire district to advance Owen J. Roberts,” Lloyd said during the various Meet and Greet Focus Groups that convened in the district on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The Chester County Intermediate Unit, which conducted the superintendent search, received 31 applications from educators throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and beyond. Among the applicants were many sitting superintendents and assistant superintendents.
From the pool of 31 applicants, 12 candidates were selected to be interviewed and six of those were called back for second interviews. From those six candidates, the board selected three finalists for a third and final interview, and conducted background checks before selecting the finalist.
The school board extends its appreciation to everyone in the community who participated in the focus groups used to develop a candidate profile and interview questions. A total of 17 fo-
cus groups were conducted with the following groups: district support staff, administrative staff, principals and assistant principals, faculty, high school students, parent-teacher leaders, and the community at large.
The school board used the themes that emerged from focus groups in their decision making. Regular public updates have been made throughout the process following best practice in confidentiality.
During her 15-year career as an administrator, Lloyd has led school improvement initiatives in three Pennsylvania districts at the elementary and middle school levels.
