Kapp, Faison selected All-State
Boyertown senior chosen as DB in 6A; Pottsgrove standout on RB list in 4A
The 2017 Class 6A, 4A and 2A Pennsylvania Football Writers/Broadcasters All-State Teams were announced Monday afternoon.
Among the selections were a pair of local senior standouts — Boyertown defensive back Jerry Kapp (Class 6A selection) as well as Pottsgrove running back Rahsul Faison (Class 4A).
Kapp led the Pioneer Athletic Conference with 11 interceptions on the season, bolstered by a four-interception game against Phoenixville last October. The Bears eventually captured the Eastern Conference championship with a 4820 win over Pocono Mountain East on Nov. 3.
Kapp is Boyertown’s first All-State selection since offensive lineman Chris Muller took the honors following the 2011 season.
Faison was virtually untouchable for the Falcons this season as he picked up his second straight All-State honor. He rushed for 2,919 yards — the 10th best on Pennsylvania’s all-time list for rushing yards in a season, surpassing Owen J. Roberts’ Ryan Brumfield’s PAC record of 2,863 yards — to go along with 42 touchdowns. He led the Falcons to a second straight PAC championship appearance, a District 1-4A title and a PIAA-4A playoff berth. He surpassed the 300-yard rushing mark in two games, including a season-high 352 yards during a game against Upper Perk.
*** As a whole, District One was well represented in Class 6A, where reigning champion Coatesville put three offensive members onto the All-State Team.
6A » Ricky Ortega, QB, Coatesville; Aaron Young, RB, Coatesville; Dapree Bryant, WR, Coatesville; Matt Rosso, OL, Pennsbury; Nick Tarburton, LB, Pennridge; Matt Norris, LB, Central Bucks South.
On Tuesday, selections for Class 5A, 3A and 1A will be announced.
