Linnette Ott Hulbert, 78, of Intercourse
Linnette Ott Hulbert, 78, of Intercourse, PA, died January 1, 2018, in Lancaster, PA, after complications from surgery.
Known as Nettie and Lin to those who loved her, she was born September 4, 1939, in Reading, raised in Boyertown, and graduated from Boyertown Area High School in 1957. A lifelong lover of plants and flowers, birds and butterflies, arts and crafts, and floral design, she graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women in Ambler in 1959 with a degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design. While on a post-degree tour of English gardens in 1961, she had a chance meeting with fellow tourist Bruce Walker Hulbert at Windsor Castle. Their love blossomed by letter, and they married in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyertown in 1963.
Bruce’s banking career took them from California to Colorado, where she served on several boards of directors and organized numerous charitable events and fundraisers. She was most proud of her service on the board of Craig Hospital and work as a volunteer for the Institute of International Education, for whom she organized a British Faire attended by HRH Princess Anne and the Lord Mayor of London. They finally settled down once again in Pennsylvania, where Bruce passed away in 1995.
Lin relocated to Lancaster County, where she enjoyed living among and the Amish. She was also passionate about photography, history, stories, traditions, antiques, and genealogy, and as a member of the Boyertown Historical Society originated the Boyertown World War II Veterans’ Oral History Project. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays and was known for her vast collection of Christmas decorations, which she lovingly placed each year.
The eldest daughter of the late Linwood W. and Mildred Althouse Ott of Boyertown, she is survived by her children Christina (Chris) Hulbert Rajab (wife of Emir Rajab) of Reston, VA; Jennifer (Jen) Hulbert (wife of Patrick Bishop) of Vienna, VA; and William (Ted) Hulbert (husband of Beth Morgan) of Palo Alto, CA; by her sister Marcia Zanger (wife of Marc) of Cumberland, MD and her brother-in-law James Schoeller, of Wallkill, NY; by her grandchildren Zoe Collin, Jack Sharetg, Sarah Rajab, and Stephanie Rajab; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Gwen Schoeller, her niece Stephanie Schoeller, and her husband Bruce.
All who knew Lin are invited to attend a celebration of her life to be held at her childhood home, the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, 111 N. Reading Ave, Boyertown, PA on Saturday, January 6th. There will be a viewing at 10am and a service at 11am. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Lin requested donations to the Bruce W. Hulbert Scholarship in Business at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, PA; the Stephanie Bryn Schoeller Memorial Scholarship at Wallkill High School in Wallkill, NY; or to Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO.
