Williams resigns from school board
POTTSTOWN » Yet another school board member in the region has tendered his resignation.
This time its Pottstown School Board member Ron Williams.
His resignation was accepted unanimously by the school board at its March 19 meeting.
Williams’ resignation from the board is for “personal reasons” that have nothing to do with the board or the community, Pottstown Schools Superintendent Stephen Rodriguez said.
His resignation is the is the area’s fifth vacancy since November.
Two members of the Perkiomen Valley School Board resigned. Ann Mantey resigned in November, just after the election, and was replaced with Sarah Evans Brockett. Richard Flynn resigned Jan. 25 and was replaced with Reena Kolar.
In Owen J. Roberts, a vacancy was created by the unexpected death of James B. Frees, shortly after he was reelected. He was replaced last month with Matthew Fitzgerald.
In Boyertown, Robert Caso resigned from the school board last month, also having just been reelected in November. He was replaced with Rodney Boyer.
Now, apparently, it is Pottstown’s turn.
The term to which Williams was elected expires in December of 2019 so whomever is chosen to replace him will serve until then and, if he or she wishes to remain, must run for reelection for a full four-year term.
The school board will accept applications until April 4, and has tentatively set April 10 as the date for the public interviews, to be followed by appointment on April 16.
After the meeting, David Miller, who ran unsuccessfully for the board in November, told Digital First Media he would likely submit his name.
