Silva, Miller selected to PSFCA AllStar Game
Spring-Ford’s Brubaker also representing PAC as East team’s head coach
The Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) announced the final team rosters and coaching staffs for the 17th annual East/West All-Star Game to be played on Sunday afternoon at Altoona’s Mansion Park Stadium.
Among the 34 seniors selected to the East team were SpringFord’s Noah Silva and Phoenixville’s Jonathan Miller. SpringFord head coach Chad Brubaker will serve as head coach for the East Team.
Silva and Miller, who were both All-Area offensive/defensive lineman selections this past fall, are slated to play along the offensive line in Sunday’s game. Silva, a Shippensburg University commit, is listed at 6-2, 265 pounds while Miller, who is committed to West Chester, checks in at 6-1, 290 pounds.
“Noah and Jon should feel good about being selected,” said Brubaker. “They’re going to learn on the first snap of the game that the guy across from them is not just another high school kid ... every kid is a special player so it will be a big challenge for them.”
Players are nominated for the game by their respective coaches. From there, PSFCA directors are assigned to position committees where they analyze every nominated player’s film and rank each player based on their performance on tape.
“There are debates, sometimes arguments,” said Brubaker, noting that coaches are nominated by their peers. “But these are the kids whose performances and abilities were ranked the highest.”
With a couple of practices under their belts already in the lead-up to Sunday’s game, Brubaker pointed out that there has been a substantial amount of growth between the players in a short amount of time.
“It is neat seeing kids who barely know each other, if at all, come together in the limited time that we have,” he said. “We have had excellent attendance and players have picked up on terminology very well. These kids know the game and have been coached very well at their respective high schools.”
The first PSFCA All-Star game was held in 2001 as a branch to the Big 33 Game, which features 34 of the top high school players in the state going up against the top players from Maryland. The PSFCA Game was created to give 68 more players around the state of Pennsylvania the chance to play in a prestigious all-star game and gain national exposure.
To date, the East Team holds a 10-5 series advantage over the West, with the game being cancelled in 2011 due to a lack of sponsorship.
