PV’s Warren, Pottsgrove’s Rose win events at Henderson Invitation­al

Perkiomen Valley’s Christina Warren, Pottsgrove’s Miazziah Rose and Methacton’s Patrick Maloney were event champions representi­ng the Pioneer Athletic Conference at the West Chester Henderson Invitation­al Friday.

Perkiomen Valley’s Warren owned the girls’ 100 hurdles, her 13.90 topping the field. She also won her specialty, the triple jump, with a 41-1½, ahead of runner-up Miazziah Rose of Pottsgrove (37-1¼) and fourth place Corrine Ferrizzi of Owen J. Roberts (36-6¼).

Warren took second in the long jump, her 18-5 second to only the 18-6 of Kayla Woods of Tatnall (Del.).

Pottsgrove’s Rose placed first in the girls’ high jump with a 5-1 while Methacton’s Corinne Meyer was third (5-1).

The Methacton girls’ 4x100 won a close race over Warwick, the Warriors’ 48.78 just .02 ahead of the runner-up. Pottsgrove finished fifth (50.38).

Methacton’s Patrick Maloney was the boys’ discus champion with a 159-2 toss. Only one other competitor reached 150 feet (Dock Mennonite’s Alex Martin, 151-8). OJR’s Aidan Hayward placed fifth with a 138-3 and Pottsgrove’s Justin Adams sixth (136-5).

Spring-Ford’s Zachary Smith took fourth in the boys’ 1,600 in 4:23.46. OJR’s Mary Bernotas turned in an equal result in the

girls’ 1,600, finishing fourth (4:57.88).

Owen J. Roberts’ Liam Conway placed fourth (9:21.08) amid a strong field headed by Neshaminy’s Rusty Kujdych (9:10.60) in the boys’ 3,200.

Perkiomen Valley’s Joshua Magee took fifth in the 300 hurdles in 41.01.

Pottsgrove’s Michael Ziegler placed second in the triple jump with a 43-6½, topped by only Northeaste­rn’s DJ Hamilton (45-9).

In the boys’ long jump, Pottsgrove’s Ziegler and teammate Lennie Hall placed sixth and seventh. Ziegler jumped 20-7¼, Hall 20-6.

In the boys’ 4x100, Perkiomen Valley placed third (42.94) and OJR went 6th (44.22).

PV’s Cole Peterlin placed fourth in the high jump with a 6-2. Grove’s Ziegler was fifth (6-0).

In the shot put, PV’s Sam Leinhauser (2nd, 50-1¾) and Jason Wagner (3rd, 497) and Pottsgrove’s Justin Adams (5th, 47-11¾) had top 5 showings.

In the boys’ javelin, Methacton’s John Keenan placed first with a 178-2 while Spring-Ford’s Jake Pajovich took third (164-3).

Pottsgrove’s Anna Myers placed second in the girls’ javelin with a 124-6 while Perk Valley’s Evangelica Rosales was third (113-0).

In the girls’ 800, SpringFord’s Emily Smith (2:19.22) and Owen J. Roberts’ Mackenzie Kurtz (2:19.73) placed sixth and seventh, respective­ly.

Methacton’s Amy Domenick placed fourth in the girls’ 200 in 26.02. Methacton teammates Juliana Keenan and Domenick went 4-5 in the 300 hurdles in 47.19 and 47.85, respective­ly. Fellow Warrior Lauren Prusacki took sixth in

the girls’ 100 (12.97).

Perkiomen Valley’s Teagan Schein-Becker (11:05.95), OJR’s Autumn Sands (11:08.56), Oley’s Valley’s Rebecca Snyder (11:10.02) and SpringFord’s Gabriella Bamford (11:24.38) went 4-5-6-7 in the girls’ 3,200 that was won by Northern distance star Marlee Starliper (10:17.41)

PV’s Caitlyn Stankina and Dorian Philpot placed fourth and fifth in the girls’ shot put. Stankina threw 36-6¼, Philpot 36-6.

Softball

POPE JOHN PAUL II 7, UPPER MERION 2 » The Golden Panthers racked up seven extra-base hits on the way to claiming a win over Upper Merion in a PAC Frontier Division matchup.

Dani Dare opened up the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as part of her two-hit game. Nicole Bowen was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot while Skylar Bass finished with a pair of doubles in the win. Alexandra Szpindor was strong in the circle, pitching into the seventh inning and limiting Upper Merion to two runs (one earned) on eight hits and three walks. She struck out four.

Katelyn Barr finished with two hits for Upper Merion. SPRING-FORD 9, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4 » The Rams crossed eight runs through the first three innings and racked up 12 hits on the way to a PAC Liberty Division win over the Vikings.

Noelle Reid finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Ashley Della Guardia had a triple and four RBI. Sam Lindsay got the win in the circle where she scattered three hits and six strikeouts. Jordan Sell had a triple and a run scored for PV. UPPER PERKIOMEN 14, POTTSGROVE 0 » Morgan Lindsay

put the cap on the Tribe’s dominating performanc­e with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning of this PAC Frontier Division matchup.

Lindsay finished 2-for-2 with six RBI and two runs scored while her sophomore sister Taylor Lindsay was 2-for-2 with a tworun home run and a double. Karlee Fretz and Taylor Croak combined for a onehitter in the circle with neither allowing a walk on the game.

Baseball

SPRING-FORD 5, UPPER PERKIOMEN 4 » The Rams rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a comeback win over the Tribe in a PAC divisional crossover matchup.

Brandon Ernst opened up the scoring in the bottom half with a one-out solo home run before David McCurry hit a two-out RBI single later in the inning. Grant Calvarese pitched six complete in the win, limiting UP to four runs (none earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out eight. His counterpar­t, Donald States pitched into the sixth inning but was tagged with four runs on five hits and a pair of walks. Trey Livingston­e had two hits and two runs scored for UP. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 8, POTTSTOWN 1 » Joey Giunta pitched all seven innings while Joe Gorla blasted a solo home run as part of a three-hit game as the Vikings downed the Trojans in a PAC divisional crossover game.

Giunta held Pottstown to one run on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out 10. Brock Helverson had an RBI single to go along with a run scored while Zach Hollenbach had a double and a run scored. Pottstown’s Brandon Gebhard pitched all six inning and was tagged with eight runs (four earned) on eight hits.

METHACTON 11, POTTSGROVE 1» Conor Smith turned in a big day at the plate as the Warriors downed the Falcons in PAC divisional crossover action.

Smith hit 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and four RBI batting out of the three-hole. Demetrio Rodriguez and Mark Engelman finished with two hits apiece as Methacton racked up 12 hits on the game. Colin Schrader spun five solid innings where he was tagged for an unearned run on four hits and two walks. Pottsgrove’s Alex Stump had two hits and the team’s lone run scored. WINGS SWEEP TWINBILL » West-Mont Christian Academy took both ends of its Atlantic Coast Christian Athletic Conference doublehead­er with Upper Bucks Christian.

West-Mont scored an 8-2 victory in the opener, then rolled in the second game 16-2.

Girls lacrosse

METHACTON 8, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 6 » The Warriors used a 4-2 second-half advantage to claim this PAC Liberty Division matchup.

Despite the result, Perk Valley (6-4 PAC Liberty, 9-4 PAC overall) claims the No. 4 seed in next week’s PAC Final Four playoffs based on tie-break criteria. Mia Sheldon led the way with four goals for Methacton (6-4, 9-4) while Sydney Tornetta added two scores and three assists. Kat Kelley paced Perk Valley with a hat trick. OWEN J. ROBERTS 11, SPRINGFORD 10 » Kelsey Kilgallon scored four times in the Wildcats’ tight PAC Liberty win over the Rams.

Danika Swech, Eloise Gebert and Hannah Delahaye each scored twice while Charlotte Lasak rounded out OJR’s scoring with a single tally. Liv Yeagle paced Spring-Ford with a hat trick and an assist while Katie Metzler scored twice.
