Ida May Gilbert

Ida May Gilbert (Mackert), age 103, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 13th.

Ida was the widow of Marvin Gilbert and loving mother to Catherine Varady, widow of Louis, of Stowe; Robert Gilbert, husband of Marcie, of Anthem, AZ; and Kim High of Stowe. Ida, the youngest of seven children, was born to Jacob and Ida Mackert on November 7, 1914 in Sunbury, PA.

Her mother passed shortly after childbirth and she was then lovingly raised by her aunt and uncle, Catherine and Thomas Quinter in Pottstown.

She worked for many years at Levengood’s Grocery Store and was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Never one to sit idle, Ida enjoyed travelling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and most of all spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren, Eve Muldoon, wife of Mark; Heather Varady; Dawn Hamm, wife of Ken; Summer Lee, wife of Chris; and Kourtney High; Greatgrandchildren Cadie and James Muldoon; Garrett Crouse; Dylan Smith; Gage, Megan, Troy, and Jordyn Lee.

She was predeceased by grandson Mark Varady.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 10am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 564 Glasgow Street, Pottstown, PA 19464.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ida’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
