At a polling place I saw an election official who was assigned the duty of setting up the machine for voters. While everyone was voting the official was busy on a cell phone impervious to surroundings. The official was clearly neglecting assigned duties and had a cell phone with a camera. The judge looked on. Both neglecting duties and having a camera in the polling place are violations of the election law. This is what you get when only one party is represented at the booth.

School boards have lost the objection of taxpayers. Schools are supposed to teach reading, writing and arithmetic. If you want to play sports, the parents should cough up. If you want pre-kindergarten the parents should pay. Why should a senior lose their home because school board members think it’s fantastic that we will babysit your kid for free? Oh it’s not free. It’s the homeowner that loses their home. Can they come into the school and get a free lunch? I doubt it.

I understand Boyertown Area High School is holding their graduation ceremony at the Santander Arena in Reading. Let me be the first to extend my condolences to graduates and family members that have back, leg or knee pain, difficulty climbing or walking distances and any disabilities because you are in for a night of discomfort when you should be enjoying your graduate’s achievement. I speak from recent experience. A Proud Parent Of A Graduate

The only two people that should be re-elected to the Boyertown School Board are Christine Neiman and Ruth Dierolf. As long as you keep electing retired teachers and principals the taxes are going to keep going up. Just because they went to college they think they should work in a Taj Mahal. I’m calling to see if anybody witnessed a tractor-trailer or box truck turn around through yards at the bottom of Grosstown Road near Manatawny Street on Tuesday, May 15, between the time of 2:10 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. If so, could you call 610-637-5135. Your information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the commentary by Marc Thiessen. It is the first thing I’ve read in The Mercury in a long, long time that I totally agree with. I think it is honest and truthful. Why can’t we have more people like him? His writing is so easy to understand for anybody. Thank you Mr. Thiessen. Nancy Lapin

Donald Trump’s wife went into the hospital for a procedure. I really don’t know why, she’s going to die anyway. If you think that’s terrible you are correct. I apologize for even thinking it. But don’t you think the Trump family and his staff should come to the defense of John McCain after one of Trump’s aides commented that it didn’t matter if McCain did not support Trump’s CIA pick because he was going to die anyway from brain cancer? How sad. Clark S. Kent

I wonder about the Limerick supervisors who allowed the developers to come into the township and build house after house after house, a huge apartment complex, and gave no thought to the roads or the schools that were going to be needed. I hope somebody out there, maybe the district attorney, could investigate those supervisors who OK’d the building of all those family units without consideration what the taxes would do to the existing people in the township.

Trump’s plan for bringing peace to the Middle East is by causing riots and killing people. He did this so he could get his name in gold letters on the embassy. Many presidents before him had declined to move that embassy because they knew what would happen. When Trump is gone the next president can move it back where it belongs and let the Palestinians take care of the gold letters.

It is 1909. They’re planning a new electric distribution system. “We should bury the wires safely underground.” “No let’s just string them on poles, what could possibly go wrong?” Portable generator salesman, “Great idea!” RW from LF

This is to the person who’s asking about John McCain’s accomplishments in the war. There’s a book called “McCain’s Promises.” It’s a good book. Read that and it’ll tell you all the information.

This is for Bob Not From Mont Clare in Sound Off. Go to Wednesday’s Mercury, page 4, and read the commentary at the bottom of the page under opinions and that will give you some answers that you’re looking for.

I just realized that Moses was probably the first person to get a prescription to make him feel better. He told God that his followers were giving him a headache. The Lord said “Take these two tablets and check with me tomorrow.” Jim Fitch Sound Off is a forum to spur dialogue from residents of the communities we serve on topics of interest in those communities.
