Pottstown falls to Pennridge in extras

Pottstown’s American Legion baseball team kept pace with Pennridge for seven innings of Saturday’s Bux-Mont League game.

But the Steelers couldn’t answer Post 255’s eighthinni­ng score. They ended up on the short end of a 5-4 score at Sundstrom Field.

The game was tied at four when Josiah Smith doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring the winning run for Pennridge.

The Steelers opened up an early lead in the first inning when Owen Morton singled on a 3-2 count, plating one run.

Noah Rimel took the loss for Pottstown off 2-2/3 innings’ relief. Daulton Mullen was the Steelers’ starting pitcher, touched for four runs on six hits over 5-1/3 innings.

Jake Eagle and Alex Stump each collected two hits for Pottstown, which scored three runs in its first at-bat. Pennridge had taken an initial 2-0 lead in the top of the first, then pulled even with a single run in the second.

Post 255 took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth, but the Steelers scored in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. SPRING CITY 6, SOUTHERN 5» The Red Sox scored a walkoff victory over the A’s in their non-league game.

Spring City was down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kevin Hynes singled, scoring two runs. It earned the victory despite allowing Southern to score three runs in the sixth inning.

Hynes was the winning pitcher for Spring City in relief. He went one inning, allowing no runs or hits, striking out two. Nick Price and Andrew Huang entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. BOYERTOWN 5, LOWER SOUTHAMPTO­N 4 » The Bears built a five-run lead in the fourth inning, then held off Lower Southampto­n’s charge for the nonleague victory.

Boyertown earned the victory even while Lower Southampto­n scored three runs in the sixth inning. A.J. Kline took the win for the Bears, throwing three innings of one-hit ball before Gavin Richards, Nick DiCiacco and Stephen Cisik came out of the bullpen to finish up.

Shayn Horrocks and Tate Yergey each had two hits to lead Boyertown’s plate attack.

Jr. Legion baseball

NORCHESTER 8, GLENMOORE 5» Josh Smith and Christian Grillo were the hitting and pitching standouts for the Big Dawgz in their Twin-County League victory over Glenmoore.

Smith had two hits, the biggest of them a triple. Grillo got the pitching win off three innings of relief.
