FEDEX DRIVER RESCUED AFTER TRUCK OVERTURNS
Driver was pinned by delivery truck on Route 724
EAST VINCENT » First responders rescued a FedEx driver who was pinned under the truck after it overturned on Route 724.
The accident happened in the area of Schuylkill and Kolb roads shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday in East Vincent Township. Officials said crews freed the delivery truck driver at about 5:20 p.m.
Liberty Fire Company and the Royersford Fire Department firefighters stabilized the truck that came to a rest on top of the driver in a drainage ditch. Royersford firefighters said the crews had to use various stabilization techniques because of the type of vehicle and the challenges presented by the working surface of the roadway and drainage ditch. The recent heavy rain also presented a challenge because water was actively flowing in the drainage ditch during the rescue where the driver was located, according to firefighters.
The condition of the driver was not immediately known on Tuesday but a medical helicopter was called to the scene of the crash.
It is unclear what caused the truck to overturn. East Vincent Police are investigating the crash.
Route 724 between Bridge Street and Reitnour Road in East Vincent was closed during the incident.
Crews were assisted by Royersford EMS, PennStar, crews from Montgomery County and others.
