New board president, VP chosen
Newest student representative also seated
LOWER POTTSGROVE » A new president and vice president were elected by the Pottsgrove School Board Tuesday night.
Robert Lindgren, who had previously served as vice president, was unanimously elected the new board president.
Two board members, Al Leach and Scott Hutt, were nominated to replace Lindgren in the vice president slot.
Leach won by a 7-2 vote with Hutt and board member Bill Parker, who nominated Hutt for the post, voting for Hutt.
The vote came in the wake of the resignation of former school board president Matt Alexander. His seat not only had to be filled on the board, but a new president needed to be chosen as well.
Earlier this month, the seat was filled by Kim McIntrye, mother of former student board member Mason McIntyre.
But the board held off choosing a new president until Tuesday night.
And while Lindgren is a longtime board member familiar to many, a fresh new face was added to the table Tuesday night when Pottsgrove High School junior Brenna Mayberry was named as a new student representative to the board.
She will serve for two years.
Lindgren said all student candidates for the board post “were excellent. We could not have made a bad choice.”
In other business, the board appointed Jeffrey Madden, former assistant principal at Pottsgrove High School, as the interim assistant principal at Pottsgrove Middle School at a salary of $350 a day. He will receive no health benefits.
Madden replaces Christopher Becker, who resigned, and will serve until a permanent replacement for Becker is hired.
There will be lots of candidates to choose from.
Assistant Superintendent Robert Harney said there are 92 applicants for the middle school post.
